Last night, I saw Frazier vs Quarry I, and it was a beauty of a contest. That was when the heavyweights were in their greatest glamour. What a fight.

That great Joe Frazier was a train, relentless competitor. He just did not stopped punching. He was scary.

Quarry hit him with some shots and Frazier did not even flinch. I also got to admire the toughness of Jerry Quarry. Too bad that he was in a difficult era to become Heavyweight World Champion.

Jerry was UPSET that the doctor stopped the fight. He still felt that he could have continued. But, I think, IN A WAY, was a good stoppage.

This fight was 1969 The Ring Magazine Fight of the Year.

I shall re-watch that fight later.

I really enjoyed both there fights.

Frazier around this time was so perfectly aggressive.

It would be interesting to see how he would have fared against
other slugger-brick fisted guys like Bonavena, who seemed to
give him his hardest fights.

He did fairly well vs the steel-chinned sluggers (Bonavena, Chuvalo)

Until Foreman that is.

Frazier-Quarry 1 was magnificient. Both fighters at their absolute peak.
(In my opinion, Frazier's actual peak was 69-70, before the first Ali fight)

Quarry was up against a relentless machine in Frazier, and would have sustained a frightful beating had the fight continued.

Call me foolish, but I think prime Smokin' Joe survives the first 4 dangerous rounds with Foreman, kills his spirit and resolve in the early middle rounds with body shots, and takes out Big George in 9 or 10.

I guess I will call you "foolish".

That could have happened...I guess the Frazier before 1971 would have break Big George's will like you said.

I also believe that Frazier in Jamaica in 1973 was not the same guy. He looked ready to be taken.

That's actually a very credible scenario. A way past his prime, obese Frazier lasted into the 5th, so what you suggested seems possible. Probably not the most likely ending, but certainly not foolish.

It's hard to believe that the Frazier circa 1968-71 was a different fighter than the Frazier that fought Foreman in Jamaica in '73. If we look at his career after the FIGHT OF THE CENTURY, HE WAS NOT THE SAME.

Quarry could not hurt Frazier. He landed.

And the most scary part of it was that Smokin' Joe was coming and coming. Jerry could not keep him off, no matter what he tried. I think that the fight was well stopped.

Likewise, and it carried over into the rematch, Quarry was on a roll going in and he tried counterpunching more but Frazier was just too much for him.

Quarry was at his best earlier against Thad Spencer (who had just beaten Terrell).

Later Quarry's build changed and he lost the snap in his left hook he had at the time of the Spencer fight.

I also note that while his late fight stamina was a bit improved, Quarry seemed to 'load up' more on his shots.

In the Spencer fight he was popping and moving so well.

Frazier owned Quarry at any stage, just a better banger.
