Hatton beat Tszyu and took Castillo out with a bodyshot.. Calzaghe has beaten seven former world champs, incl Eubank, unbeaten Lacy and unbeaten Kessler.. a weight drained Haye beat long standing Mormeck in his backyard for undisputed title.. not bad..

THINK HATTON MAY HAVE BEEN SHREWDLY MATCHED...ONLY IMPRESSED WITH THE MAGEE PERFORMANCE, AN OBVIOUSLY THE KT EFFORT..GREAT PERFORMANCE...nothing since to say he`s moved forward,,joe has a fantastic mindset..but i think he`s been blessed with a lack ofreal quality opps....haye....smash cunningham....take jonny nelson out...then have a go at heavy......junior witter..world class moves/ability...inconsistent temperament...

I think we have only one truly "elite" operator and that's Joe Calzaghe (and I hope I can still say that after Saturday).

Witter's got the ability - and is too good ever to take a pasting, IMO - but he does blow hot and cold.

Time will tell whether Haye's relatively poor punch-resistance has been the result of weight-draining, but, whilst undoubtedly world-class, his place among the pound for pound elite remains unconfirmed for now.

The fact that Hatton continues to avoid his biggest challenge at 140 should eliminate him from P4P consideration. Add in the fact that he probably lacks the ability advantage to overcome the size disadvantage to beat any current top 10 welter, then his lack of "elite" credentials are beyond question. It is strange that he is (still) widely considered to be the best at 140, but, in the opinion of many, would come a cropper against any of the top 10 in the division just 7 pounds north.

So, come on, Joe - you're all we've got!

Haye is definitely an elite fighter.

On Sat, Joe Calzaghe finally has the chance to show us whether he's going to be "found out." He may finally have to answer for all those terrible fights he had.

He beat the quality Kessler but gave the Dane too many free shots by overthrowing his straight left, leaning his head forward, and stepping off balance with his back leg coming forward. These are rookie errors that leave him wide open. I have a feeling Joe was weight drained and his strength/refelexes weren't quite there (I know he looked fast, but when you throw incorrect shots, it is easier to throw 'em quicker). That light heavy will see him a lot stronger, more sensible. I hope so.

I think Calzaghe is a very good fighter, but due to hand injuries and wasted fights I believe he never truly fullfilled his potential.
When I watch a Calzaghe fight I often thinks he lacks something,

His handspeed doesn't shine like a Jones Jr because he is not as crisp. He hasn't properly KOed an opponent in years due to having fragile hands.

Hatton has got where he has with true grit and determination, and I never bought into the 'underrated boxing brain' BS. He looked good against lower opponents and had that Mexican style about him, but since the step up he hasn't shined in world class. I totally respect the win over Tyszu and it was against a world class opponent but the skills he displayed were not. His tatics were good and his desire was immense.

David Haye seemingly has more to him than just a flshy style. He has proved world class power, world class hand speed and in my opinion is the closest we have to a true superstar to complete with the likes or Mayweather, De la Hoya etc

Junior Witter holds the WBC title at light-welterweight and is arguably the best in his division, hasn't been beaten for over eight years and easily knocked out a former world champion in his last fight...................sounds like a truly elite fighter to me

I think a truer picture is painted if you list the top ten fighters in each division that are from UK. If you do that, the landscape is very good.

Yep, theres a difference between being an elite fighter in an all-time sense, or in your era, and being in the top ten in your weightclass.

I think JC knows to change up his approach a little bit. I read somewhere he said he will throw 500-600 punches instead of 1000 and look for more power!

If I remember rightly, I said he wil need to slow it down a bit and that will be the key to Victory!

JC obviously knows DG kmnows best!

yup....should have included froch...he has a great opportunity to establish himself as a class fighter....if he has the courage to spar top quality men...guys who may not be quite good enough to be household names..but have the experience and skills to really push him an bring him on in the gym....which in turn will ensure that when/if he meets bonified opposition he can draw on those gym sessions to bring him thru....

imo.....can`t include khan yet...as he seems to be a major commercial asset to british boxing right now....not much else...

Mate I'm not sure your giving Kessler enough credit and anyway, by the time it got to the second half of the fight Joe had changed his tactics and was mixing it up - jabbing the hell out of him, great movement, solid defence and then going on the attack with blistering combos - stacato rhythm in the way he mixed his offence and defence. He was getting caught at the beginning a bit, but he was being extremelly agressive. Yes, he was at times a bit sloppy in the first half, but soon took it up a gear utilising great defence and his characteristic attacking. At the end of the day if you fight hell for leather like Calzaghe, then your gunna takes some slaps, but hes got a great chin.
