Haye in talks with GBP

Post by Chambers2 »

WBA/WBC/WBO cruiserweight champion David Haye is currently the biggest free agent on the market. He recently split with promoter Frank Maloney and plans to make a name for himself in America in the near future.

"A lot of promoters want to talk to us," Booth said.

It was reported in The Mirror that Haye's manager, Adam Booth, flew out to Las Vegas to attend the Bernard Hopkins-Joe Calzaghe event and to meet with Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions. After splitting with Maloney, dozens of offers have come Haye's way. In the next few months, he plans to vacate his cruiserweight titles for a championship run in the heavyweight divsion. Booth plans to hear all of the available offers before they make a decision.

Good for them, sensible managing and career progression, decent fights perhaps 3 of them and then a title shot is the way to go, David's not silly he knows the issue is the power of the other guy, he has the rest of the tools to do the job at heavyweight, he won't hang around for his chance.

Glad to see our bets copped Chambers on the Calzaghe points scenario, was a silly price but must admit I was sweating a tad at the end of the third. Thank god I won't be sending food parcels to you for the kids!!!

Hayes career has been a gamble in and out of the ring, he's refused to tie himself down to one promoter on a long term deal which will help him financially and allow him to get with one of the very BIG US promoters asap. Its another good example of Hayes confidance in himself and his abilities. I feel my first trip to Vegas coming on to see Haye win a HW world title :D

Nice one Global, my (imaginary) kids can start eating again

I was worried throughout the fight, the Setanta commentators weren't helping one bit, but it made the 'moment of realisation' all the better and had me jumping around the room when I heard ""from NNNNeeeeewwwwwbbbbbrrriddddgggggggeeee WWWWWaaaaallllllleeeesssss........."   :TU:

Haye and Booth thought Hopkins would win too I think It said In boxing Monthly.

Will Haye get a title shot under GBP though unless the other HW Is signed under them. All the GBP title shots are when both fighters are commonly signed with them.

Why bother about America when the HW's are fighting In Germany?

Because the main man in the division is trying to crack America.

I can only see Wlad taking low profile defences in Germany from here on in.

Haye v Wlad can be amssive fight in 18 months time.

Schaefer has been desperately searching for a HW, as it's the one thing they don't have (I dare someone to mention Ibragimov). GBP is the biggest boxing promotional company ever, and pretty much has HBO in it's pocket.

If the East European HWs want to earn any decent money, and in the US, they'll have to fight David.

This is great news.

They'll make more money fighting In Germany at the moment, theres no good US heavyweight to fight against that will make a good payday.

He could go to the US for a title holder like Peter maybe.

I can see why Wlad sounded a bit moody when talking about Haye on that BBC Interview, he's too mouthy too soon, he's only just beaten the Cruisers.

The champs are weak at HW at the moment but It's blantant disrespect at times, he should wait till he's beat a good Hw first.

This is boxing not basket weaving, Haye's good enough to disrespect the HW's whenever he likes IMO

Disrespect, or confidence? You decide.

I disagree that Germany is where the money is. Haye isn't American, but he's the next best thing in that English is his mother tongue. He's charismatic, cocky and ain't ugly (I'm trying not to sound gay here, but I'm not helping) and has an exiciting fighting style. Americans love all that.

America has always had the HW as it's most beloved division (with Middleweight probably second). There's no way in hades that a HW could make the same money in Germany as they can in the US.

Excellent Cruiserweight but he's done nothing at Heavyweight yet to be disrespecting these guys so soon.

He's got Audley's cockiness except he's not afraid to fight and has won the world title at Cruiser.

Most of the titles are In Germany though and thats where he needs to go the money will still be good enough as they pay well In Germany.

Lewis had a good personality too yet America didn't take to him so well.

I think they did towards the end. The fact that he's HBO's main analyst with Steward says a lot.

Plus he did well in The Apprentice.

Nothing wrong with cockiness if you can back it up, in fact I like abit of cockiness/confidance.

He still made over 30 million without taking into account the Tyson/Holyfield fights though.

Haye as undisputed Cruiserweight Champ, already has plenty to bargain with.

As for him being disrespectful calling out Wlad and "giving it"...what about Calzaghe!!???

Didn't he just run down "old man" Hopkins in the build up to their fight without never having done anything at Light Heavyweight himself???

Haye's style, charisma and looks are made for the US.
He would be foolish to go to Germany.

They do pay pretty well, but only when everything is on their terms and you are being brought into lose.
Ask Matt Skelton how much he got paid for his title shot. Peanuts I would imagine.

The real big purses will always be in the States, and it doesn't always have to be against an American fighter.

If Wlad can win his next few in style, and Haye bangs a few over in similar fashion, the fight could be huge.
Both have the talent and power to do it.

Me too mate. Boxing needs characters like Floyd and Roy.

I'd love to see a footballer being interviewed after the match say "We fcking destroyed them. They were shite." instead of the usual drivel.

He hasn't backed It up yet at HW, he'd beat guys like Peter though. He needs to work on not being open to a left hook when he throws his straight right and seems to look ordinary when he's not sparking them so easy.

No they don't, they get delusional later on In their careers but Haye's not like them two thankfully mentally, he does do the Roy Jones left hand low guard though.

As someone said, what had JC done at LHW before dissing the Rings #1 LHW.

Self promotion is a massive part of the sport and Haye telling the World that the best HW's are shit and boring before entering the division is a good piece of self promotion IMO

So you'd much rather they were all nice to each other and said exactly the same thing in post fight interviews like footballers do after the game?

Respect to opponent - check
Humble in win - check
State that opponent can come back from this - check
State that you were the best on the day, but that the win doesn't reflect overall superiority - check

Please, that's why I've lost some of the love I have of football, and boxing has taken over more. They sound like robots FFS.

Not that much but not as blatant to call them bums.

Guess so yeah, maybe It's the way Haye's doing It thats concerning me thats he's looking too overconfident maybe I dunno. Calzaghe soley concentrated on Hopkins rather than the whole division of belt holders.

I agree with what you saying though.

I want Haye to do well like everyone else, but the way he's speaking making me think he'll come up short but win a belt or two at best and his attitude sounds similar to Audley except he's not afraid like Harrison was.

Good job you weren't a fan of Calzaghe's when he started his career Max, he loved a bit of mouthing off.

I don't see any problem in the unified cruiserweight champion mouthing off that the heavyweight are shite when they are. Gets him column inches and adds more hype to his heavyweight debut (proper heavyweight debut that is)

He's moved up from fighting at leisurecenters, fair play to his mouthy confidence now everyone is listening to him

I was a Toney fan, never seen Ali fight.

Like I said I ain't disagreeing with anyone, It's just the way Haye talks maybe that makes me feels he's over doing It. Even Toney relaxed the talking once the fight was over.
