Interesting press conference so far. Jones Jr just told Joe he'd like a fight, but did it respectfully. Kudos to him.

Great stuff, thanks. I've been itching to say that. I'm a Calzaghe fan, but I find it very difficult to disagree with most of what Bernard was saying.

Moral victory is Bernards, but Joe showed his usual class by not getting drawn into a slanging match.

moral victory my arse. Do not forget that Hopkins stated he would never lose to a white person, disgraceful racist comment. Victory goes to Joe both morally and officially. As for Hopkins contribution to that fight and boxing in general, he offers nothing of interest, no entertainment, only illict tactics, lots of holding and the most negative boring apporach to FIGHTING Ive ever seen. Hopkins style could never prevail.

what I meant was, that Joe could only get a controversial spilt decision against a 43 year old!! the history books will say Joe won, controversially, against a man who was probably 7 or 8 years (at least past his best).

Not controversial in anyway.

Everyone will have an opinion on a fight that close. But I fail to see how that bout was controversial. Most of the US press have Calzaghe winning, FFS.

I would say Toney vs Tiberi was controversial. Or Emmanuel Augustus v Courtney Burton. Or Juan Urango-Ben Rabah. Fights in which many good writers had the losers winning between 8 and 10 rounds.

Joe is always one for statistics. 21 defences at 168, etc. So we can also use the SD over a 43yo against him, to stop him getting big-headed. However, Hopkins was still rated in many p4p lists, so it's still a good - if ugly - win.

The important thing is what Joe will do next. This is how history will jdge him. No point whining afterward sayig "I was underappreciated." The NARROW win over Hopkins should not pave the way to an easy cash-out. It should lead on to an American superfight with Pavlik. If they hype it right it'll be PPV and a sellout.
