Guzman v Arthur........something stinks about this.
Sorry for starting a new thread on this, but the more I think about this the more suspicious I am about what really has happened. The following things seem strange....
1) Setanta break the story that the fight has been called off due to Arthur being injured. Then it's later changed to Guzman unable to get a visa and Arthur is perfectly fit to fight. How did Setanta get it so wrong?
2) Normally any boxing tickets I order from seetickets arrive a few weeks before the date of the fight. Yet the show was called off with only 8 days to go and my tickets still had never been sent out to me.
3) All the press releases say once Guzman has a visa to enter the United Kingdom a new date will be announced. Well the email I received from seetickets on Friday says the fight will NOT be rescheduled.
4) Apparently Guzman now has a visa! So if the fight is due to happen next weekend, surely that is still enough time for him to fly over here. New York to London is only a 7 hour flight!!

Absolutely!!!!Maelstrom wrote:Typical modern-day boxing shennanigans. This and also Inkin pulling out.
When did this stop being a sport?
And I also totally agree with the title of the thread as well.
Boxing Politics - say it time and time again - there is more going on behind the scenes which is more interesting and intriguing than the fights themselves and that has to be wrong!!!
I think Froch has been shat on from a great height by Inkin and under no circumstances should Frochy ever fight him.
With regards to Arthur and Guzman - it is all to easy to blame Team Guzman in all this - I honestly think we should look to these shores!!!

Heard he's now got his visa and it will go ahead at a later date...
Still convinced it won't happen
More annoyingly is that Warren has f*cked this one up (never ever wanted it to happen) and is obviously over the moon about Froch is fight being off.... 2 fights i've been looking forward to all year

If it is the VISA problem - which I don't believe it is - just an opinion - but if it is - then that is not Mr W arrens job or his staffs job to sort the VISA issue out:
All Sportsnetwork have to do is inform Team Guzman:
Make sure you get your VISA
Make sure you bring along your medical certs like the Brain scan, HIV test, etc etc
If the fighter forgets the medical side of things then thats solveable as you can get medicals done whereever but it comes out of the fighters purse!!!
The VISA issue is not W arrens problem - but for me and my humble opinion there is more to this than meets the eye.
Has Guzman failed his check weigh in?
Is there another problem?
It would be interesting to get Team Guzmans perspective on this!!!
This fight was never going to happen, it is that simple. Visa or no visa. There have been a quite a few phantom fights where SN is concerned.
One I remember very well is the Steve Robinson v Luisito Espinosa fight that was meant to happen 10 years ago, it was never going to happen. Even though it was down for Reading on the Dean Francis/Mark Baker bill and then scheduled 6 weeks later for Cardiff.

Oh yeah, I remember that - Stevo had a fighting chance in that one also.Reyes wrote: One I remember very well is the Steve Robinson v Luisito Espinosa fight that was meant to happen 10 years ago, it was never going to happen. All the Hatton fights that have fallen threw under SN - Harris, Mitchell,Reyes wrote:This fight was never going to happen, it is that simple. Visa or no visa. There have been a quite a few phantom fights where SN is concerned.

There the Harrison fights that have fallen through - Guzman, Marquez
Theres Calzages Glen Johnson fights that fell threw, not sure if there were others
I've only been following the sport closely for 4years so not sure about before that.
Allot of these aren't Frankies fault, but Im sure something tricky happens on occasion. We remember fights falling through and the fighters still being advertised for around a week after the cancelation
I had my suspicions when Fwank when he wrote about Inkin in the sun on Saturday morning.
He would have needed to have known Friday for this article to be in the printers in time for Saturday release.
Would not suprise me if he'd tried to scupper the ITV slot with the false offer to Inkin of a WBO shot at Joe, in between Hopkins and Jones.
Then he'd get to shaft Froch (who turned down his offer) ITV (who he fell out with) and pull one over Hennessy (just for the hell of it)
When Khan leaves the stable and Calz retires...he can open a British branch of universum.

i firmly believe that this fight will happen. there are very few avenues for arthur to go down, and i think he knows this.
if it doesn't happen, its because arthur doesn't have the belief that he can win this bout.
the show was close to a sell out, so why would SN want to pull out. guzman has got visa problems, and you cant put that on FW.........unless he has sent a special request to the home office!!!!

Fair points, but somat shifty seems to have gone on. If the fight gets rescheduled it was probably all above board and was just a visa issue, but if not ????101boxing wrote:i firmly believe that this fight will happen. there are very few avenues for arthur to go down, and i think he knows this.

As always Time Will Tell
I reckon there's something untoward going on myself with either Franky Boy or Guzman and his team. I don't think we'll ever see this fight happen (which is a massive shame) and I think Guzman will move up in weight. His visa application shouldn't be a problem whatsoever because he's fought in a world title fight over here before and didn't have problems getting in then. I still think Arthur will get a massive fight but I really doubt it will be against Guzman - perhaps Marquez or Juarez for the vacant title if Guzman vacates and heads north like I think he will still do.
And more interestingly he's been given his visa two days late but still insists that he wants the fight to be postponed. I mean two days isn't really going to matter and I think he's just playing games until he moves up.

Make you right mate.101boxing wrote:i firmly believe that this fight will happen. there are very few avenues for arthur to go down, and i think he knows this.

Guzman's people were hinting before purse bids that Arthur might cry off, but they were not blaming him or the promoters when the visa problem cropped up.
A bit harsh blaming promoters here

Well found this article, to me its the usual shite that goes with any Guzman fight. Its all about the money.

if people stop buying tickets, boxing dies.......end of argument. come up with something worthwhile you dimwit.Loftgroov wrote:Well, all it needs is people to vote with their wallets.
If people stop buying tickets to SN shows they will probably stop f**king around like this... but if people keep doing so what incentive do they have to change?
Okay, without going too far into my work life, I know a lot about visa issuing processes and there is no way on earth that the Guzman camp are telling the full story - he would had gotten a visa within 24 hours of the application, simple as.101boxing wrote:i firmly believe that this fight will happen. there are very few avenues for arthur to go down, and i think he knows this.

My own view is thast Arthur probably does want the fight - lets face it, providing he doesn't do a Nicky Cook, even defeat would leave him with as many options as he has right now, possibly even a few more.

correct me if i'm wrong........but is there not a difference between a visa and a work permit/visa? could you fill us in if there is a difference between the two, and if so, would there be different processes/restraints on gaining either respectively?
Thought Spud said he wouldn't be surprised if the blame was in AA's side.rhino222 wrote:spud eluded to this potentialAutobarn wrote:Perhaps Guzman has different kinds of problems.
