May 30th Central Coast Leagues Club
Nitro Boxing promises the best card of boxing ever seen on the Central Coast- a night that will be remembered. On Friday the 30th May at the Central Coast Leagues Club Nitro Boxing presents a night of boxing where nearly every fight could have main event status. In total there are 9 professional and 3 amateur bouts in a card that will become the benchmark for Australian fight nights.
Promoter Angelo Hyder states “Not only do I want the fights on the Central Coast to be the best in Australia; so do our local fighters!”
“The boxers tell me themselves that they don’t want easy fights. They want wars! They ask for fights that their friends and boxing supporters want to come see. The boxers want to be in fights that people talk about…”
Hyder goes on “Adam Wills asked me for Charlie Vella.”
“Adam said ‘I want the most exciting fight you can get me. Get me Vella. The people want to see that fight. I want it. Vella wants it. The people want it. So let’s do it.’”
“Allan Luxford wanted Jun Paderna. He begged ‘Angelo, it’s a fight I want. It will be a war. Please get him for me…’”
“Locals Stewart Edds and Murray Drysdale both wanted each other. So we put that on.”
Angelo finishes with “This is real boxing and it’s what the people want. We have done it and I hope the boxing fans get behind our local warriors and get there on the night to support them. There is nothing better than a room full of Central Coast boxing fans screaming their heads off cheering their local fighters.”
The main event features Central Coast favourite Adam Wills against Charlie Vella over 6 rounds. These two have already had 2 wars and both fights were judged Fox Sports Fight of the Year. The first fight was in 2005 and the second in 2006. The ledger stands at one win apiece and this decider is sure to eclipse both previous matches for excitement and entertainment. Their 2005 - 2006 battles were such thrilling fights that Fox Television has replayed their bouts literally hundreds of times in the past 2 years on their program “Classic Fight Battles”.
Wills is trained by Angelo Hyder, the legendary assistant trainer to former World Champions Danny Green, Mike Tyson and Vic Darchinyan while Vella, the current NSW Jnr. Welterweight Champion, is trained by Billy Hussein. Hussein is the head-trainer behind Team Hussein, whose stable boasts names such as Lenny Zappa, Nader Hamdan and Hussein’s brothers Skinny and Hussy. Both camps are eager to win the final bout of this epic trilogy to have the bragging rights over one another.
The Wills-Vella III fight is perhaps the most talked about fight in Australian boxing today behind Jeff Fenech’s proposed comeback. It has dominated the internet boxing forum topics since it was announced as every boxing fan in Australia has seen the 2 previous fights and all are awaiting the decider.
2007 Prospect of the Year William Kickett takes on undefeated Nigerian Thomas Yakubu over 6 rounds in an intriguing bout. Both young boxers are undefeated so one of these two will taste defeat for the first time in their professional careers. Kickett is trained by Craig Christian who also has World Champion Chris John in his stable of fighters, whilst Yakubu is with Rod Davis from Adelaide. Both have been professionals for around 12 months yet it is Yakubu who has the better amateur career having represented Nigeria at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
The Central Coast’s favorite boxing son, Alan “The Wild Thing” Luxford, takes on giant slayer Jun Paderna over 6 rounds in an attempt to regain momentum after a lengthy lay-off due to injury. Paderna has pulled off a few upsets in the recent past and the former PABA Champion is looking to do the same come May 30. In his very last bout Paderna beat Australian Lincoln Stewart in Stewarts’ hometown of Melbourne and was very unlucky in his fight previous to that against former World Champion Gairy St Clair in which St Clair escaped with a majority points decision. Paderna also had a draw with Heath Ellis, the nephew of former World Champion Lester Ellis, earlier this year in a bout many experts had the Filipino winning.
Luxford has not fought since August last year and is looking to kick-start his career. With an imposing record of 21 wins against just 3 defeats Luxford is a world class fighter and will be on the road back to a World Title shot in the near future.
In other bouts big punching South African heavyweight Pieter Cronje (122kg) is up against tough Australian heavyweight Brian Fitzgerald (115kg) in a bout over 6 rounds. Both men have toe-to-toe, walk up styles and have promised to stand and deliver. This fight guarantees big punching action.
The experienced Sydneysider Edgar Wymarra is facing dangerous Novocastrian ko artist Tui Leveni. Both fighters throw a high volume of punches so this one will come down to who wants this fight the most. One thing for sure is it will be an all-action fight.
Bateau Bay boxer Craig Parke is fighting African-born Jean Claude over 4 rounds and hopes to make this an impressive performance as he is desperately trying to get an opponent for the NSW Light Middle Weight Title and further honours.
Parke is trained by Angelo Hyder and has been working on his power. Hyder said “Parke is a really good, slick, fast fighter with all the skills but needs to find more power to reach the higher level. We have worked hard on it and I am very, very happy with where Craig is.”
He goes on “I am sure people will get a real surprise with the new Craig Parke and I am very confident of a knock out win for him.”
Undefeated Perth fighter Mike Hatwell is in against Japan’s Hiroaki Morita in a bout over 4 rounds. Hatwell comes into this bout at 3-0 and big things are expected from him. Morita will certainly be stern test for him.
In a local derby at lightweight, Stuart Edds, from Team Robinson where he is trained by Dean Robinson, is fighting Murray Drysdale from the Cotterill camp where he is trained by Boo Cotterill. This is a match both boxers have been asking for and with a lot of local pride on the line it is sure to be a cracker.
Big punching local light heavyweight Blayne Davies is making his pro debut against Sydney’s Nick Xipolitas. Davis is trained by Dean Robinson and will be a future star on the Coast as his walk- up tough style will be loved by the Coast boxing fans.
Local amateur stars Michael Perry, Robbie “The Hitman” Harris, Jess Codey and Damien Rappa will feature in the amateur bouts.
Doors open 6pm Amateurs start at 6.30pm sharp.
