Film Trivia
Professional boxers, both active and retired, have appeared in dozens of
films. Some were limited to "bag punching" scenes, others played major
roles in one or more films.
Here is your chance to help out Simonpure. I have seen the movies that
match the boxer, but just can't remember all of the titles. Maybe you can
even add a few to the list.

I think Vito was in "Goodfellas". LaMotta was in a few movies.
Anyway, go to http://www.imdb.com/ and search for each fighter's name. They might come up with the movie(s) each fighter has been in.

Hawk....Thanks a lot. Everyone on my list can be found at that site with
the exception of Dado Marino.
the exception of Dado Marino.
Canada Lee played a boxer in "Body and Soul"
Lou Novawas in "Somewhere in the Night."
There is a lineup of fighters at the bar watching television in "Requiem for a Heavyweight" and the fighter they are watching is the (then) Cassius Clay.
There are a lot of old timers with bit parts...some just in the ring being introduced in "The Prizefigther and the Lady" and there is a brief scene in which Jack Dempsey and Jess Willard make a reference to their fight in Toledo.
Jim Beattie plays the part of the fighter based on Jess Willard in The Great White Hope" Technically though his part is small he plays the title role.
Did someone list MaxBaer in "The Harder They Fall"? plus the guy who plays the fighter who gets killed in ring was a boxer, but I'm too lazy to look it up.
None of these anser your quiz, do they? Well, follow the advice and go tot he IMDB but be sure to click on "complete cast'...just the cast listing doesn't give those who didn't get billing on the screen.
Can't remembere the name of the war movie Johansen was in, but he played the part of the ex fighter "The Swede" in the TV version of the killers.
Have to take the dog out.

Mark Breland was in "The Lords of Discipline"
Vito Antuofermo was in the "Godfather III" I believe, playing a bodyguard
Carlos Palomino starred in a couple of movies too, but I don't know the titles of those.
Curtis Cokes was in "Fat City" I believe.
Sugar Ray Leonard had a leading role in some action movie a while back.
Ken Norton starred in "Mandingo" and "Drum" ( and in both the A-team and Knight Rider)
Tex Cobb in "Naked Gun" ( part ?), "Raising Arizona" ( and Married with Children)
Maxie Rosenbloom in an old James Cagney movie named " Each Dawn I Die"
Mike Williams in "Rocky 5", as was Tommy Morrison ofcourse ( and some other boxers including Stan Ward)
That's just a couple off the top of my head

simon..I see you've already checked the imdb and found their listings, and in addition all us trivia kooks have added some of our own. the problem with Dado Marino is that, as you've discovered, every listing for the words "Dado" or Marino" pops up, but as far as I can find, there are no movie references with him. My favorite Jake LaMotta film apearance title "Confessions of a Psycho Cat."
A minor but interesting point. Jack O'Halloran played Moose Malloy in "Farewell My Lovely", which is the title of the novel. When the picture was made years ago, under the title of "Murder, My Sweet" (the studios were afraid the novel's title sounded too much like a love story), the part was played by wrestler turned actor Mike Mazurki, who had quite a few roles in some good movies.
Curtis Cokes was in Fat City,as has already been mentioned. His part was larger than most fighters have, and he played a boxer, but his part had him in more scenes out of the ring than in, as I recall; he did an excellent job and got some good reviews by critics.
I have a hunch this thread is going to stay alive for a while,as more and more of us think of more and more examples.
