The US only has 3 boxers is Taipei. Yanez, Williams and Molina. They are all boxing up a weight. Boxers that quailified for the Olympics do not have to be there. Boxing started on Sunday with no US boxers. Williams and Molina box on Monday and Yanez, Tuesday.

Most countries do not have their best boxers in the tournament. Cuba did not even send a team.

Why would our guys all be boxing at a higher weight class? Does this mean that they are not mainting their weight properly? They should be on weight at all times? Are we going to have guys that get DQ'd for not making weight in Beijing?

I'm surprised so many guys fight one weight class above their olympic weight. Three americans one weight class over their olympic weight seems too much. Also in England they are worried about the weight of world champion Frankie Gavin who only fought at 60 kg once (at the Worlds) in over a year. Also 48 kg world champion Zou Shiming use to fight at 51 kg and looks big for his weight.
In 1996 Hungarian Pal Lakatos failed to make the 48 kg limit and missed the Olympics (He did make 48 kg four years later though). In 2000 american David Jackson won his first bout but couldn't make weight for his second bout and lost.
Venezuelan bantamweight Hector Manzanilla is fighting mostly at 57 kg. At the Panams last year he missed out by 100g. Looks like someone could be headed for the same destiny in Beijing.

people dont understand that the weight they're fighting in the Olympics is the absolute lowesdt they can go in most cases. There is no reason to kill your body during training to fight in a tournament that has no meaning on the Olympics

Exactly! This tournament is only for experience though the money is nice that the top finishers get but it's really for experience. No need to be on weight all year. It's too hard on the body.

US results:

Day 2
Raynell williams lost a close bout in his first bout against Kim Song-Guk from North Korea 15-12. He was winng the 1st 3 rounds but got a warning in the 4th to tie it up and the Korean quickly got 3 more pts to win. Javier Molina looked good in a 27- 5 win over Abaka Nickson of Kenya.
Day 3
Luis Yanez looked good in a decision over Ronny Beblik of Germany 11-8.
Day 4 (Wednesday)
Yanez looked good again in a 16-9 win over Shin Dong-Myung of Korea. It was close till the last round but Yanez did not looked like he deserved all of the points he got in the last round.
Javier Molina got out boxed in a 11-5 loss to Morteza Sepahvand of Iran. The Iranian just danced and boxed forcing Molina to chase him but he was getting caught coming in.
Thursday is the day off, semi's friday with only Yanez left.

Yanez lost in the semis 14-1 to a tall Korean boxer. The Korean used his height and made it difficult for Yanez to get inside.

I believe it was Somjit Jongjohor of Thailand. He won the 2003 worlds and was runner up losing to Warren 13-9 at the 2007 World Championships.
