The legend that is - Charlie Zelenoffs pro debut

I missed it so I was interested to see what went on against 1-13 JR 'fly fishing' Hartley.

What do you think?

You know what I think, he has some decent tools at his disposal - he has good handspeed and
I think a decent trainer could mold him into a reasonable fighter.

Any novice amatuer who's sparred more than a handful of rounds would beat him convincingly.

The whole thing is an absolute farce, and IMO it devalues the sport that it's got so much attention.

Zelenoff is all mouth, the minute Hartley started landing punches he quit like a bitch. Then afterwards he says he proved everyone wrong because he had the balls to get in the ring.

No Charlie, you quit when it got tough like a coward, ANYONE can step into a boxing ring but it doesn't make you a courageous fighter unless you take your beating like a man.

I don't know this legend - but I have seen the fight just now... Oh Dear.

I'll give him some credit if he goes for a second fight though.... thats when we will see how much balls he has. Win, lose or draw next time - he's experienced just a taste of the pain a punch can make and if he wants to try again - then fair play.

How about Charlie vs MTG!

I hope Carlos you were being sarcastic regarding his talent level though.

Wasnt even a decent punch that landed for him to quit. Its been funny, but has to stop now as its going to make a mockery of the sport and could end up with someone (i.e that stupoid tit) getting hurt

Thats the link to the fight - I put the wrong link up!

I was being serious actually  I'm not saying he would beat JR Hartley
again anytime soon - but if someone could teach him to box over the next year he may
become quite OK - Not a champion or nothing but I do see some glimmer of hope - he has
a nice fast jab when he used it and a good trainer can work from there.

He has a big gob that doesn't shut up. But someone could develop him into more than
what he is at the moment (which admittedly isn't much)

You cannot teach him to get away from his natural instinct - and his natural instinct is fear and to run. That will always happen when he is 1) Tired 2) Under pressure.

Your not talking about a great fighter who beat him - what is he 1-13 (thats what I have heard). If he aint going to beat Hartley any time soon (which I agree with) who is he going to beat?

Andrew 'kid thunder' Hartley is a pro who regularly posts in the other sports forum under his nickname 'kid thunder'. Zelenoff is some kid from California who bragged about what a good fighter he is even though he had never fought amateur OR pro. Anyway after months of slagging each other off, they finally got in the ring in may on one of Stacy Goodsons shows.

Like I said earlier, Charlie is a no talent, no mark kid who decided all of a sudden he wanted to be a boxer so he posted loads of youtube videos of him saying how good he is, what a badass he is and so on, all this gave him a bit of notoriety.

To cut a long story short he finally got into the ring against Andrew Hartley (a 1-13 tomato can), he pranced around for a bit, got hit and quit like a bitch by repeatedly spitting out his gumshield which resulted in a shameful disqualification.

Zelenoff needs to be in a gym for a year before he steps into the ring again. The more I watch his videos
the more I think he may be suffering from some kind of narssitic mental disorder. His phone call to JR Hartley
about a rematch saying he was never hurt and he was in control for the first minute tells me he might not
be playing with the full shilling.

None of us know anything about him - Is he really Russian? He is an enigma that there is no doubt and there
is room for the Charlie Zelenoffs of this world - the beauty of boxing for me is that the 6 rounders are more entertaining
than any Junior Witter fight. Because someone is a 12 time ABA champion like Steven Bell it doesn't mean he is a) Entertaining to watch b) Going to be any good or c) Going to have a succesful pro career.

If someone wants to box and shows competence then give them a license - Zelenoff has to go back and learn how to
box properly - if he does before he gets into the ring next is anyones guess.

He certainly has a Russian family and friends though judging off this vid.

He claimed his trainer was Dick Tiger who fought Winky Wright which was probably al load of crap.
