I think the fans should be angry at Warren. It's obvious he doesn't think any other British fighters from different promoters should be featured. In other words we should have the same product pushed down our throats - lots of WBO title fights - with the occasional big Joe Calzaghe fight.
Warren seems to obect to Haye promoting himself, comparing him to Audley Harrison. However, Haye is already an undisputed world champion (even though some of the belts are being stripped) with major American networks and promoters interested in working with him!
Setanta have the right outlook. They are the 1st British TV network to consider what the boxing fan wants, rather than trying to please a single promoter. The exclusivity of the contract meant that Warren's fighters all would be on Setanta, NOT that no one else could fight on there from different stables.
For my money, Setanta was way too "in house" this year, too biased, resulting in projecting a negative image of David Haye after his world title winning effort vs Mormeck and culminating in Richie Woodhall's silly comments during Kotelnik-Rees, Richie actually trying to convince ppl that Rees was winning.
I know Warren can bring positive things. Such as the Arum deal (after Pavlik-Lockett, working with Arum & hopefully more big stuff) but to me it's important not to let a promoter have free reign as it ALWAYS spoils things.
We need healthy competition within channels, and it looks like we'll get this. Good luck trying to promote Enzo Macca, this time!

Frank sounds like a spoiled little girl here.
He clearly wants a piece of Haye and is upset he isn't getting any.
It was exactly the same with Harrison, Frank's regular 'columns' having a pop at Audley week in week out during his exclusive contract with the BBC were Frankly embarrassing - as all the time it was clear Fwanky just wanted to sign him AND did ultimately sign him after he was damaged goods.

Re: Warren "very angry" at Haye-Setanta deal
I love how Warren compares this situation to the Audley Harrison one, yet there are zero similarities between the two. Audley promoted himself from day one. That's not what Haye is doing. For one, he's an undisputed world champion with an already established global reputation. And for two, I don't believe this is all just purely abut Haye. I think Warren may have underestimated Haye here. That makes it twice in a year, doesn't it?
Re: Warren "very angry" at Haye-Setanta deal
It looks as though Setanta weren't as naive as some had give them credit for when they signed the contract with FW. Frank can go and fcuk himself, the Haye-Seyanta deal is very good for British Boxing, Haye is gonna need some financial backing to get hold of the BIG BOYS at HW and Setanta are the HBO of the UK.
Warren shows his lack of class once again

Its nice to see Setanta have their heads screwed on, maybe they come on boxing forums and actually research the product unlike ITV/Sky
Re: Warren "very angry" at Haye-Setanta deal
Setanta are in the know alright, a few of the boys there know their Boxing. As for Warren he should watch his lip; where else does he have left to go if Setanta can him? Channel 5
Re: Warren "very angry" at Haye-Setanta deal
I'd like to see him on Eurosport. Can you imagine Steve Holdsworth commentating on all the crappy 'World Title Fights' that Fwank offers up?

He can't sign a deal by himself UNLESS he calls the shots.Max Molyneux wrote:Thought he only signed a deal to have his fights on Setanta,Haye promoting himself
I think he will employ someone like Maloney to Handle his UK fights ( pay him a flat fee along the lines of Naz and Barry Hearn) and Co-Pomote with GBP in the states.
It's like Kevin Mitchell signing a deal with Setanta and not telling Fwank, he can't do it unless he is in control of his own path.

Audley didnt fail because he promoted himself, the simple truth is Harrison failed because he was not good enough.

A boxer promoting themselves Isn't always a good Idea though, even Frank would of stepped up Harrison's opponents faster than Aud himself.
He parted with Maloney though.I think he will employ someone like Maloney to Handle his UK fights
Re: Warren "very angry" at Haye-Setanta deal
This could end in tears for Haye doing it on his own.

As his official Promoter, but business is business, he can hire him as and when.

Haye is already a Wold Class fighter so why bother messing about?
He should get a top 10 heavy NOW, the heavyweights are quite crap, so I do not see whay he should wait.
Re: Warren "very angry" at Haye-Setanta deal
I'm not sure Frank would step haye up quicker than he and Booth seem to be willing to do, although not neccessarily the best idea I don't think the same criticism of audley applies hear.Max Molyneux wrote:A boxer promoting themselves Isn't always a good Idea though, even Frank would of stepped up Harrison's opponents faster than Aud himself.

I quite like the idea of Frank being angry!! would be a good argument for other networks to take up boxing if Setanta can make a sucess of it.

Warren being angery means he's worried and when he's worried he usually delivers big fights.
Warren being angry is good for boxing ;)

Re: Warren "very angry" at Haye-Setanta deal
I think there are calculated risks he needs to take vs a number of different styles and chins. Holyfield did it sensibly and Haye will have to. Haye's EBU reign is a great example of how to do it stage by stage, one step at a time.DG. wrote:leforge wrote:I have a feeling he going to rush it at heavyweight he needs few fights as warm up bfore moving to higher level.

I do not believe maloney would not work with booth, and the rumour is that they had to pay maloney off, thats way he has not come out shouting about hay and booth. At the 02 on tuesday they will tell the world that dave caldwell will be their front man and run their shows under his name and goldenboys will all so be involed in the usa, they are naming caldwell as their english promoter as hay and booth now live in turkey as tax exiles and by law are only to come into the uk for 90 days a year.
