Any news on Carl Froch
Any news on Carl Froch
Any news on what he is doing with himself now?? I haven't heard anything for a while just wondering if there is any news about his WBC shot.
Re: Any news on Carl Froch
He's mandatory for the EBU title, latest from bbbofc about it is:
SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT KARO MURAT (Holder, Germany) v CARL FROCH
Please be advised that the European Boxing Union has made a final extension to the deadline for receipt of purse bids for the above contest.
Purse bids should now reach the EBU Offices in Rome by the new date of FRIDAY, 13th JUNE 2008 by 12.00.noon (Rome time)
However, if agreement is reached between the parties and signed contracts lodged with the European Boxing Union before this date then the purse bids will be declared null and void.
Please be advised that the EBU has ruled that no further extensions for receipt of purse bids will be granted

He's mandatory for the WBC too tho.
I think Jean Pascal was the guy being bandied around as the guy he will fight for the Vacant or the Interim title.

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
Has it been extended because no one is putting in bidds or what, would be a really good fight for him, legitimise his WBC challenge and would be a legitimate hungry fighter for him to beat.The_Don1 wrote:He's mandatory for the EBU title, latest from bbbofc about it is:

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
pascal will fight zuniga the first of august and if he wins GYM said he should be ranked #2 for the wbc and be in position for a world title fight vs froch for the belt.jameswilson wrote:He's mandatory for the WBC too tho.

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
i think calzaghe-pavlik coming together might freeze froch out for a little longer.
interesting to see what the wbc do there.
whether they order an interim title match up with pascal.
otherwise european title it is then.

Can't see Froch going to Germany for Murat.
Murat shouldn't even own the belt.

Froch should tune up on the European title, he'd win It no doubt.

That's a high risk and doesn't make business sense.Max Molyneux wrote:Froch should tune up on the European title, he'd win It no doubt.
The fact that it's in Germany should be enough to put anyone off.
Re: Any news on Carl Froch
It's still at the purse bids stage, so Mick and Carl could get it on home territoryGray-Fox wrote:That's a high risk and doesn't make business sense.Max Molyneux wrote:Froch should tune up on the European title, he'd win It no doubt.

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
I suppose it depends on how highly Sauerland value Murat.
Would they send him over if they lost purse bids?
Come on, they could do anything to delay, reschedule, etc the fight.

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
Get him in for the WBC title straight away I say - he's wasted enough time already.
Re: Any news on Carl Froch
Froch should demand Joe to vacate the WBC or fight him.
Can anyone imagine Joe defending against a WBC mandatory? Now or ever? Didn't think so.
Warren wrote in his column that Haye should vacate his belts if he wasn't going to fight Enzo Mac. I know Haye ended up battering Enzo. But Warren was keen to say that if you're a champion, defend your belts. Enzo wasn't even Haye's mandatory for any of the belts. Froch is mandatory to Calzaghe and should be given a title fight - vs the champ or vacant title bout - and he could easily pull Warren up on those comments. Because those comments are way more relevant to this situation. Froch has already shown Calzaghe up on ITV with the telephone conversation (Joe: "Money, I need money. If the money's there, the money's there. Money, more, more money! If the money's there, the money's there! Give me money! If the...") and Froch and Hennessy can show up Warren by referring to Warren's column right after Haye-Mormeck.

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
Froch is with Hennessy, nothing much will happen, he's not going anywhere fast.
If he was with FW doors would open very quickly

what, like they did for Gary Lockett?Coco wrote:Froch is with Hennessy, nothing much will happen, he's not going anywhere fast.

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
At least Lockett got his shot and got well paid
Froch is earning nothing at home in front of the telly and his shot is as far away as ever.
Remember Lockett is not one of FW's premier fighters and is in the queue when it comes to being looked after, Froch is the jewel in Hennessy's crown

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
Well, Hennessy has gone against the grain so it never was going to be easy. Frank's WBU etc years at Sky were bad and this opened up the doors at Sky for promoters to stage quality domestic level fights. It might be worth asking if Sky wanted to keep Froch in British/Commonwealth level fights, or if it was Hennessy, or if it was just Froch turning pro late, or if it was the difficulty in getting opponents. If you look at what they've been showing since about '05, it seems to me that Sky are still trying to "repair" UK boxing from the bottom up, make it "respectable" for the hardcore fan.
Re: Any news on Carl Froch
I don't disagree with what Hennessy is trying to do, but if we are talking about Froch he is not getting the opportunities or the money.
If he was with FW he would do, he would have got the Amir Khan treatment and Amir is ahead of Froch in both Money and opportunity already

Froch has been a pro since 2002, he could of gone further by now and took a belt before Joe taking so long to unify.

Hennessey loves his fighters fighting high risk fighters though and Froch Is good enough for the Euro.Gray-Fox wrote:That's a high risk and doesn't make business sense.Max Molyneux wrote:Froch should tune up on the European title, he'd win It no doubt.

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
Froch has had just 23 fights in over 6 years, whereas Khan has had 17(soon to be 18) in under 3.
They are both Commonwealth champs, but guess who has earned far more.
And i'll bet my mortgage that Khan will have an attempt at world honours first.
Hennessy may love his fighters taking high risk bouts, not being busy and not earning, but he don't take the punches for them and he don't pay their bills

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
You get the impression that by being with H he's made a rod for his own back and its a shame because he's such a talented fighter. I saw that thing on the telly with JC, trouble is fights are made by the promoters and JC was right, it is all about the ££ and CF wants to get paid, quite right too..Coco wrote:I don't disagree with what Hennessy is trying to do, but if we are talking about Froch he is not getting the opportunities or the money.

He can definitely win a title its just a question of when JC retires or relinquishes. I can't see JC coming back down to SM, but maybe he will, you never know.

bingo!! he needs to be pushed more, hopefully he isn't far away now though..Coco wrote:At least Lockett got his shot and got well paid

Re: Any news on Carl Froch
Yet look how long Hatton stayed at the WBU level. Obviously, lay low when there is a great champion at the weight, until you're ready or he's ready to be taken.
If there was an established champ at super middleweight, Joe would have won a world title much, much later than he did, it's worth considering.
With the promoters who are on Sky now, you don't see any of them going for the WBO belts (another belt that has earned fighters a lot of money yet managed to spoil boxing) so that is 1 reason why it's taking fighters longer.
Also, there are 3 big time, protective, European promoters who are quite prominent at super middleweight. It's hard to deal with them. Just as Inkin (Universum) pulled out vs Froch twice, you have Calzaghe (Warren) holding a title whose mandatory he won't accommodate, and Sauerland, whose guy Murat just won the European title on a lucky(ish) decision. What will happen if Hennessy wins purse bids for Froch-Murat? It doesn't take an expert to realise Froch is wanting the world title shot and can't afford to hang about. So if Murat, e.g. gets pulled out of a European title fight, can anyone see Froch waiting for Murat? Not really...
Froch has progressed slowly, but it looks like things are somewhat stacked against him. I mean, even when you get to the elims, the opponents pull out. When you're made mandatory, the champ doesn't want to fight etc. It's bollocks and ppl should just get down to it and fight.

Hatton may have laid low at WBU level, learning his trade but was kept busy and earned good money. If Froch isn't careful his best years will have passed him by while he sits in the house.Autobarn wrote:Yet look how long Hatton stayed at the WBU level. On the other hand while you can't get away with defending these belts like that no more, it has hardly hurt Khan's progress.
You are right there are 3 big time Euro promoters around, and that is the problem Hennessy is small fry and cannot deliver.
Froch is one of the better fighters to come out of Britain in recent years, the first Englishman to medal at the worlds, and his career is being wasted.
If he went with FW he would be fighting for the world title by the summer, and would have financial security forthcoming
You may be selling your soul to the devil but he would pay top dollar for it and give genuine opportunity of advancement
