Azumah Nelson v Jeff Fenech TONIGHT iN OZ !!!

Post by Ash-Weston »

This is a sad sad sight. Nelson is 49 yrs old and hasnt fought for 10 yrs. Fenech being 44. The fight takes place at the Vodafone arena in melbourne. Dunno if its being televised over there tho!

I think this is the third fight between the two of them.

Fenech on points! then hang your gloves up the feckin pair of you!!!!!!!!!

We'll see.

I'm probably going to regret saying this but I don't reckon there is much chance of a knockout.

Well I just hope that the one time mentioned Fenech vs Mundine bout doesn't get re-mentioned if Fenech looks okay vs Nelson.

Bloody hell Willie Kickett is an unfortunate name for a boxer any way you care to read into it.

I can see Mundine v Fenech at 160 before the year is out, despite what Jeff has said to the contrary.

2 fabulous fighters from the 1980s, often overlooked. If they'd been American I'm sure they'd have got more plaudits.

Hope enither of them gets too hurt...

2 FABULOUS fighters is right.bout should not have happened BUT anyone watching would of seen try glimpses of hardcore genius. They were not mucking about.may have been a bit slow and sadly Fenech ran a bit in the 9th and even 10th BUT these guys showed more spirit/guts and skill than many of the so called champs today. That said i sure hope they both hang emp up for good.Again though some of the action was pretty damn good.

as for aussie boxing swipes.Geeez mate.no doubt some of our lads fight scrubs but in fariness with such a TINY pool of fighters(always been that way) and the fact that still some step up like not many others-even if they get theit arses ripped as an aussie fan i still have much respect for many of them. Some (mundine excluded) still not scared to step up to the big time despite padded records and step up BIG time on a relative scale.so ease up.Boxing in this country is very very very very small and with such a small population dont think we do too bad.I dont give a toss if our lads get beat as long as they put in an honest effort and come to fight(Mundine excluded of course). History will suggest while many get beat there are some that can always pull the upset/give the world a shock eg Harding andries 1,waters vs norris round 2.
NEVER dismiss an Aussie.

For the future-may have gotten a controversial decision tonite BUT wiilie kickett after 10 fights steps up vs St Clair at his preferred weight and accounts for himself very well.Watch him for the future.Reckon he will go places.and then theres always Katsidis-ALWAYS comes to fight and fights FARKIN hard.win or lose you know he will always give value for money.Calling Mr Khan ...........AS IF

P.S. Jeff Fenech and Azumah Nelson are both downright farkin champions.

I meant his skin numbnuts, not his moustache.

For 50, Nelson looks absolutely terrible. I've got mates in their 50's who are west indian, and christ, they look 20 years younger at least.

What has Nelson done to himself to look so awful?

No film exists of Sugar Ray Robinson at welterweight, so watch Nelson dismantle Mario Martinez in 12 rounds on the Tyson-Bruno bill in Vegas in 1989.
You never have to watch another fight.

Is this actually true? I've heard quite the contrary, that there is quite a bit of film available of Robinson at Welterweight, I know several people who claimed to have some snippets of his fights, though no fights exist in their entirety.

James I'm pretty sure/ there is some SRR at Welter at least thats what I've heard. Who knows if his prime truly was at Welter though. The pre-retirement (he retired for 3 years after his loss to ) middleweight fights may have been him at his best. I would imagine his skills would have peaked in his late 20s if nothing else. Ofcourse he would have more size advantages at the weight and may have been quicker. If you really want to know about SRR at Welter the claims of people having Welter footage came from the ESB Classic Forum so you may want to try making a post there

Why would anyone compare a slugger like Nelson, albeit an excellent 1, to Robinson is beyond me anyway
