Who is the Best Lightweight in UK
There are a few threads on here following Khans recent bout, with many people saying khan is ducking Thaxton/meager/Murray etc etc
To clear a few things up... who are your top 2
Mine are :-
# 1 - Khan
# 2 - Limmond
who are yours ?
The Boxrec top 7 are:-
#1 Khan
#2 Thaxton
#3 Limmond
#4 Fewkes
#5 Meager
#6 Earl
#7 Murray

Khan definately
Re: Who is the Best Lightweight in UK
Khan's beaten 3 of the current top 10. That's pretty good. I think it's important for Khan to beat Thaxton and/or Murray.
Khan's definitely number 1. Limond probably second, though I haven't seen his latest fight.

Re: Who is the Best Lightweight in UK
Khan, Thaxton, Earl, Limmond is how I would view the top 4 currently in that order. Khan a CLEAR #1.
Re: Who is the Best Lightweight in UK
At the moment untill one of those below him either beat him or beat someone significant.
I don't want Earl to continue, I think he is finished but at the moment his defeats have come against Kastidis, in which he had his moments, Kastidis would give the #2 in the devision (possibly #1) a fair few problems and Khan.
Prior to the Khan fight he was the #1 in the devision domestically, the manner of the Khan fight pulls him behind Thaxton, despite Thaxton losing badly to a man who Earl has beaten.
Limond I think will beat Earl, and maybe Thaxton - but he has still to beat a top ten fighter himself. There could be a case maybe for Meager and/or Stewart (for running Thaxton close) but I would like to see them actually beat someone domestically first.

Re: Who is the Best Lightweight in UK
i only showed the top 7 cause that was were Murray was ranked, the other 3 werent going to get any votes for who the top 2 were
also, Khans tally would be taken to 3 of the top ten

As number 1?Terry D wrote: If you extend it to the Top Ten then you will see that Thaxton holds wins over three of our guys. I would go for Thaxton, was pretty solid as British Champion and dabbled in European waters.
Number 2 yes, number 1 no chance... Dabbled in European Waters? So that mean Dave Walker should be in the top 3 Welters either? Becuase if dabbled means getting anhilated then thats exactly what Walker did.
Now if Thaxton wins the EBU title, then a case can be made.
But Khan beat the guy who inflicted the defeat to Ramonov (and was generally ranked UK #1 at the time), and also beat a guy who drew Zoff. Zoff was a former world champion and held Ramonov to a close decision in Ramonov's home town back in October.

Yes, but I think he's beat him. How long is it since Hatton beat Thaxton, and Thaxton is still well regarded.
Fair play to the guy, tough as old boots......but Khan is too quick and too young.

Re: Who is the Best Lightweight in UK
Khan, Thaxton, Murray, Limond, Fewkes, Meager, Earl.
Re: Who is the Best Lightweight in UK
I think so too. Khan would be too fast and I could see Thaxton getting cut early.Captain Hook wrote:Think HE'D beat him.......

Khan since he beat Earl. Earl didn't lose his domestic titles, he vacated them.
Thaxton's a beating waiting to happen and Malero will probably deliver one.

I think Thaxton is No. 1 he is proven against a range of different fghters at the weight.

Who? Guys in the lower echoleons of the domestic top ten? Khan beat the then #1 and a guy in the top 4.josh fg wrote:I think Thaxton is No. 1 he is proven against a range of different fghters at the weight.
I think Earl, Limond and Lawton (and compare his manner of his win) is significantly better than Meager, Lawton and Stewart.
Plus Kristjansen drew against Zoff, and Zoff gave Romanov a respectable challenge recently... so respectable that a fair few gave Thaxton a chance against him (citing that if a shot Zoff can give him a fight, then Thaxton will win).
Re: Who is the Best Lightweight in UK
Right now i would say a rust-free and motivated John Murray edges the rest of the best.
Amir's talent is growing all the time and soon will be suprassing the other domestics.
Warren is right to avoid Thaxton and Murray as they could beat him at this point right now as khan is still pretty embryonic at the moment.
