In front of a sold out crowd at the A la Carte Event Pavillion in Tampa, featherweight Carlos Rivera (13-3) pounded out an exciting eight round decision over local veteran Carlos Diaz (9-13). Rivera dropped Diaz in the second round after an explosive exchange. Diaz was able to recover and hurt Rivera in the fourth. After eight brutal rounds that left the crowd on their feet Rivera won a unanimous decision. In the co-feature, Starfight Productions welterweight sensation Keith Thurman (6-0, 6 KOs) scored his sixth first round knockout a row over Jayson Jordan (6-23-3). Also unbeaten lightweight prospect Tyrese Hendrix (13-0-1) won a unanimous decision over James Helms (6-2-1). Judges had it 59-55, 59-55, 58-56.
Other results:
Middleweight Ahsandi Gibbs (8-0) knocked out Ben Aragon (7-11) in the fourth round. Heavyweight Nick Iannuzzi (7-0) won a unanimous decision over Dione Craig (4-13). Heavyweight Earl Ladson (14-18) upset local favorite Jason Barnett (10-8) via unanimous decision. And Jenna Shiver (7-3) knocked out Renee Douglas (11-6) in the fourth round.
