Banal - Concepción off!

Post by claudevsq »

You have on your schedule Nobuo Nashiro against Kohei Kono on September 15th for the vacant regular WBA 115-pound title. That is right, but of course, the fight between AJ Banal and Rafael Concepción for that same vacant title must be off! Take it from the schedule, please...

I'm supposed to cover the Banal fight and I'm updated faithfully but so far have heard nothing about the fight being off. So until one of the Filipino editors feels it appropriate to take it off, it is perfectly alright to be it on the schedule. Maybe Nashiro - Kono is off because the contract from Banal-Concepcion was just signed a few days ago.

I rather think Banal-Concepción will happen, but probably, it won't be for the vacant WBA regular Superflyweight title...

As I said, the contract has been signed and the WBA approved the fight as a title fight.

OK, but then, Nashiro vs. Kono can't be for the same vacant title. Please remove from the schedule that Nashiro vs. Kono is a title fight...

Please note that Banal-Concepción is not on the schedule anymore on the official WBA page. If I had to guess, I'd say Nashiro and Kono will fight for the aforementioned title... They are also higher rated than the two others...

Claude - the fight is still happening and is still for the title. Almost 6000 tickets have been sold and there's a press conference promoting the fight takes place on Friday in the PI.

Like I said, if it's not taking place I'm sure one of the Filipino editors will handle it or I will. Personally I hope they reschedule the bout since Chris John is fighting the same day in Indonesia but again - so far no one has contacted me about any cancellation and since the contract is signed, the only thing I see forcing a cancellation is an injury to one of the fighters.

I believe you, no problem... but then, Nashiro and Kono can't possibly fight for that same vacant belt, as written on your schedule...

Kono and Nashiro are the WBA's number 1 and number 3 rated fighters and they're fighting a WBA eliminator to face Banal or Concepcion later in the year. Concepcion was the only one available to fight Banal since Kono, Nashiro, and Roberto Vasquez declined to fight Banal or were already scheduled to fight.... Whomever wins the Banal-Concepcion fight will defend his title to either Nashiro or Kono in September.
