NOTE: Linca’s victories in the semifinals and finals of the 1956 Olympics were furiously disputed in some quarters and the stigma of those two bouts hung over his head for years afterwards. But the fact that he fractured his right thumb in his first Olympic contest and had to take Novocaine injections to get him through his three remaining bouts moderates some of the criticism leveled at him. His partial record above, though very incomplete, testifies to the quality of competition he faced during his career and the success he finally came to enjoy.
