Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
"ANTHONY Mundine will today announce details of his next fight against a Japanese boxer by the unlikely name of Crazy Kim in Newcastle on July 30.
Kim, who is fighting in Australia for the first time, has an impressive record of 28 wins - 24 by knockout - in a 32-bout career.
The 33-year-old holds the OPBF light-heavyweight and super-middleweight titles but also fights regularly at middleweight - the division Mundine is planning to move to in pursuit of big-money overseas bouts against the likes of Kelly Pavlik, Ronald "Winky" Wright and Jermain Taylor.
But with the possibility of a light-heavyweight rematch with arch rival Danny Green in Perth next January or February, Mundine is likely to keep his options open until he knows whether the bout is on. As a result, the bout with Kim may be fought at catchweight.
The fight will be Mundine's first since beating Sam Soliman for the third time, in Melbourne on May 28, in his fifth defence of the WBA super-middleweight belt he regained by beating the Victorian at Sydney Entertainment Centre last year.
Among Kim's previous opponents are Australian Heath Stenton, who has also fought Mundine, Green and Soliman. Kim won a unanimous points decision over Stenton in Tokyo last July."

Re: Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
is the plan to make this PPV?
Crazy must be happy, he now has an opponent he has a chance of beating. No wonder he ducked Porky to fight Mundine :P

i would be surprised if it wasn't on ppv. which is ludicrous and unacceptable by foxtel BTW.toppity wrote:is the plan to make this PPV?

ppv is okay for big fights but when its a small fight they should do one-off deals with channel nine or ten...they could then put adverts in between every round (or every other round) and make just as much from companies buying these 30sec-1min advertising slots as they do from people buying the ppv......coz mundines ppv's are inevitably getting less revenue each time he fights another bum (no disrespect to mundines opponents)
Re: Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
Kim has only lost one fight since 2001. Boxrec ranks him No. 20 Light heavyweight. How bad can he be?

Once again Mundine will knock out a boxer with good stats however i am sure once he does everyone will start saying Crazy kim was a has been, Go Mundine - bring on Green.

Good to see the scribe did his research
Kim won Interim super middy title, which he relinquished as fast as he won it & retained light heavy
Aussie Wayne Parker Jnr is the super middy champ.

Re: Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
Kim has had fewer fights than Mundine but scored one more KO than The Mouth. Maybe we had better wait to see what happens.Boxster-Man wrote:Once again Mundine will knock out a boxer with good stats however i am sure once he does everyone will start saying Crazy kim was a has been, Go Mundine - bring on Green.
Re: Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
Crazy is a worthwhile opponent. No superstar, but a step up from the previously taxi drivers. It should be an ok fight. However, stating that "once again Mundine will knock out a boxer with good stats" is a bit of a reach. Who, except for Soliman in the second fight, has mundine KOed that had beaten any worthwhile opponents? Stats lie, level of opposition does not.
Re: Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
I had a conversation with Hermie Bohol the other day. Hermie and his father train the Filipino fighters that live around Liverpool. He is pretty annoyed at his boxers being run down. They are all professionals and most are well rated in the Philippines. If you look at the lists of World Champions from the Philippines they have produces a lot more than we have. He says some of them have suffered from being put into fights too soon after arriving in the country. Could we be underestimating our own fighters?
Re: Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
probably a bit of both, brute? i have seen some of the Bohol stable boys cop some bad decisions as well as giving the local boys a good fight. they all seem in better knick than past fighters brought over and they all come to fight.Brute wrote:I had a conversation with Hermie Bohol the other day. i wouldn't care if he fought plumbers and cab drivers, just as long as he didn't act like Floyd mayweather all the damn time....telling us all that he is the greatest athlete ever etc etc...hes a fcuking embarrassment to the fight game.
i thought islam would have taught him some humility.

Choc is as much Muslim as I'm Roman Catholic
In the past 50 years I've been to church 8 times = 3 weddings & 5 funerals (unsure if there's any difference between the 2

Re: Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
I wonder what its going to take for you guys to admit that Mundine is a good boxer/athlete? Sure he has the abillity to shoot his mouth off and get people offside but his career in the ring deserves more than the Cr@p he constantly gets.
Re: Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
Because of all the tough challengers he consistently takes on?Boxster-Man wrote:I wonder what its going to take for you guys to admit that Mundine is a good boxer/athlete? Potential is not achievement. Mundine mainly fights scrubs. He is actively running from Kessler. I don't see too much to jump up and down about...

mundine will get respect when he grows some balls and stops running away from big fights.Boxster-Man wrote:I wonder what its going to take for you guys to admit that Mundine is a good boxer/athlete? what he did just recently with regards to avoiding the kessler rematch was pure cowardice...saying hell drop to MW, then when the heats off move up to LHW for a payday against someone he knows he can beat......that kind of stuff makes not only his critics hate him more, but it even turns the loyal fans away from him.
he needs to fight whoever/wherever if he wants recognition and the right to act like floyd mayweather. otherwise STFU

I have'nt laughed like that for ages.adamheight wrote:"

I have historically disliked Mundine because he has lacked heart and warrior sprit over the past 4 years. As mentioned on this thread, him standing down as WBA Champ was a disgrace, he knows himself he was afraid of Kessler and anyone with a ounce of boxing knowledge will know that Mundine was scared shitless of Kessler. When he could'nt possibly go down lower in my expectations he yet again surprises me.
I know the the UK has a few boxers who are known runners (Calzaghe run and hid with his WBOllox title for 8 years until Lacy), but at least for his next 3 fights he fought the best that was around (until a way past his best BHop and RJJ) and it just pisses me off that the best in the business will not face off with each other anymore, instead finding opponents to pad their records up.
Jesus Christ, what is going on!! Can the WBA WBC IBF WBOllox do something about this. Mandatory defences always, every 6 months you fight the no 1 challenger, not the number 1134354 in the world, not the no2 challenger but the no1 challenger, screw promotors, if all titles were run this way then all title fights will be worth seeing..
Sorry - Rant over and I have calmed down!!!!!!! Deep breaths
Re: Mundine set to take on Crazy opponent
attention boxster man;
hey mate and welcome to the forum. Not sure how long you have been reading the forum prior to posting but at present you will find very little support of Mundine here(or on current scene/british boxing forums either).if you were to look back on various posts stretching over some time you would find many references to his good boxing ability and athletic prowess.
most posters here from my experience are objective people-hence looking at Mundines career over the last several years(basically since the victory vs Green)OBJECTIVELY you will find that it is hard to offer much support for what he has done or the way he has conducted himself as a high profile sportsman. And it has nothing to do with his race or religion.Just the fact he acts like he is Ali but neither has the brains, the ability or the balls to do so.
As a previous fan of Mundines i am know one of those who would love to see him KTFO.He is a money maker first and boxer(i will never say fighter)last.Ducking Kessler and the last couple of,to be very polite, LAMEARSE defences of his "title" and his continual bleating of how wonderous he is despite the aforementioned facts were the last straws for me.
Each to their own and i personally like more people to this forum.diversity of opinion is never a bad thing and you get to learn a great deal(well i certainly have). But you will be sadly disappointed if you expect support for Mundine. If in future he decides to fight live opponents( and not fighters out of their natural weight and much smaller than he eg soliman, fighters wAY past their best eg Hamden or absolutely pissweak opponents-take ypur pick)thenj support maya again be his.Win or lose. For now ,IMO he is a sellout,a fraud ,a fake ,a fugazi and someone who has insulted Aussie boxing, boxing in general and himself, his race and his religion.
As for crazy Kim-well it could of been worse and perhaps a start for getting things going in the right direction.BUT kim is NO Pavlik,Taylor etc etc .aNd he sure aint Kessler-yipe yipe yipe, run away(or in Mundanes case run down a division).
no offence intended to you mate.

Fair call JSA, i take no offence, as a Mundine supporter you get used to it, lets hope Kim is a start of bigger and better things, possibly knocking Kim and then Green out may get him back on the ladder of respect, stranger things have happened.
Geez its tough being an Anthony "The Man" Mundine supporter around here.
