Munroe Dunne Press Release
Munroe Dunne Press Release
Just read an interesting press release on Britishboxing.net re Dunne v Munroe.
Will Peters allow Dunne to fight in Britain????
I was in Dublin the night he got knocked out; some fighters never recover from such a devastating loss.

Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
Dunne has fought in Germany, Italy and the US. I don't see how the UK will be a problem for him. There will probably end up being more Dunne than Munroe supporters in the venue anyway so it's not a huge deal. I think there is more money involved if it is staged in Dublin but Maloney is obviously keen on home advantage despite the little difference it'll have on influencing the actual fight.
As for recovering from the loss, I think he already has. He took 9 months off and has come back with 2 wins and altered his style to protect against such flash KO's. I think it has actually improved him as it has forced him to get rid of the more arrogant and show offy traits of his style and made him protect his chin more and fight at range rather than being goaded into mixing it up all the time to please the fans.
All in all, it has the makings of a great fight and I don't think Dunne would have any problems fighting outside of Dublin. Peters I don't know about.

Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
I think the problem here is that dunne is contracted to rte. I dont see how dunne has a problem with going to england as canninball said hes fought outside england. I hope they find a decent sized venue so dunnes fans can get some tickets and not have it in the york hall ,as far as I know thats the same size as the staduim , a couple more thousand would be great.dapug wrote:Just read an interesting press release on Britishboxing.net re Dunne v Munroe.

York Hall is even smaller than the stadium, it's well known for its atmosphere but really it's a tiny venue .metropol wrote:I think the problem here is that dunne is contracted to rte. Munroe will have to take on Martinez as mandatory sometime in the Autumn and Dunne will become the next mandatory after that so he'll probably get his chance in the second quarter of next year . If this goes to purse bids Dunne/Peters/RTÉ's will win it, they can make a lot more money over here with the fight than Munroe/Maloney/SKY can over there .
If promoted well here it would probably sell out the refurbished Point Depot(soon to be O2 Arena), which will hold between 14,000/15,000, if the fight was over there we could see it in the York Hall with less than 2,000 people in attendance . RTÉ Pro Box live pays much better than a Friday Fight Night aswell .
Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
Big ears.Do you feel any of the shine has come off dunne in the eyes of the general Irish public? When is the point going to be ready? It ill be a great asset for a lot of events, but with some of our boxers coming through I hope we will see a lot of big cards there in the future.
Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
Oh most definitely and if the fight was made tomorrow it would probably only get about 6,000 , however as you probably know the Irish public are idiots and will follow any bandwagon with enough support or publicity behind it . Dunne will have 2 more fights before he gets to Munroe, these will be on RTE at primetime viewing as always and the Irish public by then will think of Martinez as a myth and the loss as a minor blip .metropol wrote:Big ears.Do you feel any of the shine has come off dunne in the eyes of the general Irish public? The bandwagon will be in full force again, just give it some time, and if Dunne performs aswell as he did against Marchiano(even though he was a poor opponent) we could have an even bigger bandwagon than last time .
The Point,(and I'm going to keep calling it that even when it becomes 'the O2 Arena') will be ready in December .
I think we will be seeing some big cards in the future, Dunne, McCloskey, Haughian, Murray and Paulie Hyland fight pretty much exclusively out of Ireland while Duddy and Lee fight at home quite a bit . Even Macklin plans to continue fighting here quite a bit, apparently Warren is going to have a few shows in ireland involving him .
We'll get our World champion, just who it is and when it comes remains to be seen, and when we do get them they'll no doubt defend the belt here because they'll be able to sell out Croke Park(82,500) easy .

Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
Sell out Croker "easy"?
Can't see it being that easy Big Ears. We a love a bandwagon but 82,000 is huge, boxing isn't that big at the moment in my opinion. I think it would be possible to sell out a smaller stadium (new Lansdowne, 50,000?) but unless maybe it's Lee (who has a high profile already) it won't be a Croker sell-out.
No way would 82,000 come out for Duddy with the prevailing atitude towards Northerners.

Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
A lot of folks in the Republic tend to think that Northerners have a bit of a chip on their shoulder I have noticed.
My point is, if Duddy was from Cork, he'd have a much better chance of selling 82k tickets and he wouldn't need to be a guest commentator on RTE to build his profile.
Anyway, that is beside the point.

Tell me, would Bernard sell more tickets if he didnt train in Belfast, base himself in Belfast and have a belfast corner - Peters aside.
I have removed my chip!
Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
Hi lads, may I contribute my two cents please,
Duddy if he continues to raise his profile by winning a few more fights, most notably his next fight which is a title fight. There is every chance he can fill Croke Park, even the following Summer, providing he is against an opponent of reasonable attraction which would catch the publics imagination.
Duddy is a folk hero up the North, and as far as I know that is catching on big time in the South. There should and I would definitely say that no disinterest in the South for Duddy. For christ sakes the man is Irish through and through!!! And extremely proud of it.
He is the only current Irish fighter who can sell out Madison Square Gardens.
He is such a good fighter to watch and the American public really like him. I would gladly pay a lot of money to watch a big title fight involving Duddy in Croke Park.

Loads of Dublin fighters train up the North Mc Cluskey, Rock and Dunne and that does not in anyway effect there ticket selling power…. Case closed!

John Duddy will challenge for Verno Phillips IBF light-middleweight title on October 31 – but the venue for the bout has yet to be decided upon.Asterix wrote:What's the title fight he has next?03mcgs0 wrote:Hi lads, may I contribute my two cents please,

Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
I love Duddy, but I am from the North. I just notice in GAA circles, soccer etc that a bias has crept in.
I know that I have friends in the south and some of them say you could tell a Northerner at ten paces, the blond highlights, the swagger, you know the rest... Just goes to show the attitude. It's why the Tyrone and Armagh football teams are hated, while Kerry are widely admired as a great side.
Anyway, my point was that I can't see an irish fghter selling out Croker any time soon. Boxing in general hasn't a big enough profile, though that is changing.
Few fighters had the profile or following of Collins at the time of the Eubnaks fights - what was the biggest crowd he drew in Ireland? Not 82,500 anyway...

I would say Duddy is more liked than Dunne around these parts(Tipperary) so there's no distaste against Northerners here .ApolloCreed wrote:I love Duddy, but I am from the North. I just notice in GAA circles, soccer etc that a bias has crept in.

You underestimate the value of an Irish bandwagon . People in this country will support anything once it's doing well and has publicity . For god sake half the country was watching cricket for the first time in their lives during the World Cup .
They love an occasion aswell, Munster could sell a place like Landsdowne out 3 times over for a Heiniken Cup semi-final but might only get 6,000 the week after at a Celtic league game . An Irish World Champion defending their title at Landsdowne would get loads of publicity and catch the imagination of the public, there'd be the late late appearance by whichever Irish fighter, adds on tv, radio, mass coverage in the papers and it would catch on . I'm telling ya, this country is terrible for a bandwagon .

Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
It wouldn’t happen at York Hall if Maloney won the bids. The East Midlands, be it Nottingham or Leicester – and Munroe would love to defend his title at Leicester City's ground, The Walkers Stadium – would be the place for the fight.BigEars wrote:If promoted well here it would probably sell out the refurbished Point Depot(soon to be O2 Arena), which will hold between 14,000/15,000, if the fight was over there we could see it in the York Hall with less than 2,000 people in attendance . Do you think Munroe could generate enough money for Maloney to put in a 6 figure purse bid ?

How can you be so sure RTE would pay more than SKY and the size of the bid Maloney would put in.BigEars wrote:How big a crowd could Rendall realistically attract ?, afterall his last 3 fights were in Leisure Centres .Podmore_Birmingham wrote:It wouldn’t happen at York Hall if Maloney won the bids. Maybe this is a fight he believes could go to a bigger venue and as he has the Champion he can also do a deal with the Champion and put in an inflated bid which is common practise in boxing, but looking at the EBU Ratings is only ranked third so he may have a long wait to get to the mandatory position and the mandatory position is every nine months from the date of his last mandatory so when was his last mandatory and when will he fight the Spaniard who is next mandatory so it will be 9 months from the date of that fight providing Munroe is successful and you can bet minime Maloney will make him wait the full distance If he cannot do a deal beforehand.

Re: Munroe Dunne Press Release
Tough to say, probably a few thousand. He is a popular bloke around Leicester and a high-profile defence like Dunne would see friend of friends tagging along. It’s easy to market a fight like this: winner to get a world title shot, etc.BigEars wrote:How big a crowd could Rendall realistically attract ?, afterall his last 3 fights were in Leisure Centres .

I think Frank Maloney is canny enough to look at the bigger picture, especially as he has plenty of East Midlands-based fighters to line out the undercard – the likes of Kevin Concepcion, a decent ticket-seller and one of the best prospects in the Midlands, Simon Fleck, Jason Booth, Adie Whitmore, etc. Those names, as well as a few more Shinfield-stabled lads – Kevin Hammond and Rod Anderton – could start to see an arena like the Walkers reach double figures, capacity-wise.
