Enzo vs Banks for WBO title

Post by Axe »

It's official, enzo takes on hard-hitting Johnathon Banks for the WBO title vacated by Haye.

The WBO has ordered purse bids to commence.

Thoughts on this fight between two big punching Cruisers?

Amazing how you get knocked out and then get an immediate shot at the title again! Shows you how poor this division is.

Banks has never particualry impressed me, and it depends how the Haye defeat has affected Mac.

I reckon Mac in the middle rounds.

Im gonna opt for Banks.

Heard this is taking place on the MEN Show on September 6th. Thats shaping up to be a nice little card.

If Banks fights the same as he did in his last fight then Big Macc will win. However, I think Banks is a lot better than that performance (and Manny Steward will stay in his corner for the duration on this one).

I'm sitting on the fence a bit, but leaning towards a Maccarinelli decision.

Banks can look dynamite early in a fight, or pedestrian when a fight goes longer.
Still a dangerous opponent for Macca, but if he can avoid getting too involved with Banks over the first 4 rounds and just box him, then i would favour Macca to get the win.

Another factor has to be Big Macs personal demons after being ko'd in his last fight.

If he truly does believe the Haye fight was just about who landed first then he'll be fine.

Mr Bunce said he saw him the week after the fight and he was fine.

If Alexeev can repeat the success of his amateur days in the pro ranks, Mac may be took to pieces should he get past Banks.

I think the Banks fight will be fun and at least Enzo gets a pay day.

I'm surprised Enzo Calzaghe see's him as a credible opponent considering Pavlik isn't for Joe.

I've never seen Banks. What's he like? Does he have a genuine chance?

Banks is decent boxer, his style is probably more a british type of jab then follow with the right, rather than a bob and weave style. He carries good power early on in a fight, his chin might not be made of steel , he's been decked a couple of times, but what cruiser hasn't?

He does stand a chance against Macca, he may come out firing to try and see if the Haye blowout has left any permanent damage on Macca. in percentages its a 60/40 fight in favour of Macca for me

To add, he was quite static in the Rossitto fight.

How did the powers at be contrive to get Alexeev out of the way? Can't believe he'd turn down a title shot. Personally I thought he'd be more of a threat to Enzo than Banks

Been thinking about that myself. With Alexeev having a big promoter and being rated in the top 2, above Macca. Maybe Alexeev needs another learning fight. Even if he needed one, he still would have been favoured to trounce Banks.

Maybe he's going for another belt.

Banks is actually a very solid fighter. Banks was #1 in the WBO ratings, so he gets an automatic shot at the belt. It was Enzo who was fortunate enough to have FW on his side to get him in the title picture.

The only way Macca vs Alexeev was to happen would have been if Banks turned down the fight.

Also, Frank W has won the purse bids so it will be staged in the UK.

I think most people were expecting Banks to turn down the fight for now because he hasn't looked ready. Maybe Alexeev's promoter didn't fancy bidding against Warren?

Pavlik smeared his copy book by winning a WBC title. They don't like them in Wales, they do not like to see the colour green taken in vain.

Vacant title fight vs Banks looks like a gift from God. Got to say, Enzo looks very fortunate to get this.

Universum & Alexeev could have made things very bad for Mac.

Banks was just abysmal in his last fight. Enzo Mac would never look that bad, even getting knocked out.

Good old Frank. Why make one decent card, when splitting it into two will do.

No kidding, last night I was just about to post that how's he going to have a Khan fight, and a world title fight, on the same event. When I deleted it so as not to sound cynical. Had a nagging feeling that this card wouldn't stay whole.

Anyway, split card aside. You're a lucky, lucky man, Enzo Mac. Better men were above you in the rankings. I really wanted to see Alexeev come to the UK and stop Enzo. Hate to sound like a "typical effing BoxRec effing poster" but isn't this what fvcks ppl off about British boxing - British fighters getting favoured by the WBO, and being allowed to avoid world class fighters even in world title fights. Typical Frank W Arren show.

Provided Mac wins, how long will we have to wait for good fights. Maybe David Dolan can do something at cruiserweight, and if he can mop up domestically & on the Euro scene, maybe he can challenge Macca one day.

Expect the Norton/Steeds winner to emerge in the rankings at some point. And some Argentinians. Positive hotbed of cruiserweight talent in Argentina. Can never go wrong with 3 or 4 from there. And a couple of Brazilians. And Ottke. That should see Enzo out.

I just hope Alexeev ends up targeting the WBO title and gives Enzo a lesson.
