Re: AUSSIE TV SCHEDULE FOR OLYMPICS
Cheers madball
Didn't particularly want to sit through synchronized swimming hoping to catch a bit of boxing.

From what I've read/seen/heard/etc - Pitt, Fletcher and Boyd are probably our three best boxers competing, although it will be hard for them to get to medal contention - esp Fletcher who fights MW (75kg). Pitt, heavy, always got a puncher's chance and Boyd, from memory fights 60 or 64kg, so I don't honestly like chances.
Will be great to see at least a few victories in the prelim fights from our boys and if we're lucky see a medal. Fingers crossed!

Not sure about Channel 7, I couldn't find a proper schedule for their Olympic coverage like SBS had listed. Hope they show the Aussie fights in full if not on SBS at the very least.
Re: AUSSIE TV SCHEDULE FOR OLYMPICS
Little is our best boxer in my opinion. Not sure if we can win a medal but heres hoping. Pitt might be a heavyweight but certainly no puncher. Thanks madball for the schedule. I've got olympic boxing taped from as far back as 88 so i better get the tapes ready.

Re: AUSSIE TV SCHEDULE FOR OLYMPICS
Yeah for sure. Ike Quartey got beat by Spike Cheney. Pretty sure Wayne Mccoullough was 92. His semifinal against the Korean was a cracker. 88 was good for us cause my pop trained an Australian boxer that competed there and my mate also represented Australia. Also the last olympics before the computer scoring came in.

Wasn't so much saying that Pitt was a heavy puncher, more that from what I've read in that the HW division is reasonably weak this Olympics.
That would be a lot of boxing there. Good stuff.

wayne was actually in both seoul and barcelona. he didnt get far in '88 though but 4 years later got the silver. 88 was flyweight and 92 bantam.fox wrote:Yeah for sure. Yeah i didnt know that he went to Seoul but remember him getting silver in Barcelona. He was too tough for his own good. I've got two of Ottke's fights on tape. He got beat by Canadas Eggerton Markus who got silver to Germanys Henry Maske. A lot of good fights at Seoul.
Re: AUSSIE TV SCHEDULE FOR OLYMPICS
I see Jarrod Fletcher got an unlucky draw. He drew the Cuban first up but does hold a victory over him.
Re: AUSSIE TV SCHEDULE FOR OLYMPICS
Fletcher gone

well beat. i forgot that i disliked the amateur system so muchfox wrote:Fletcher gone
Re: AUSSIE TV SCHEDULE FOR OLYMPICS

Re: AUSSIE TV SCHEDULE FOR OLYMPICS
The computer scoring is the problem. Thats why our boys fight in the Global. I think its a good breeding ground for the pros. You look back to the past where your olympic champions usually went on to become the top world champs. Not that way now. Bring back the old system. Sure there were bad decisions but your never going to erase those from the game. Our boys cant go to the games but they still get trips away. How many body punches get scored under the computer scoring? Obviously not many by the looks of it. Yeah Lowie the Samoan looked to be in a bad way.

the lack of body punch scoring looked bad fo the sport. Didn't see the Samoan, hope he is o.k.fox wrote:The computer scoring is the problem. Thats why our boys fight in the Global. Re: AUSSIE TV SCHEDULE FOR OLYMPICS
Our boxer Fletcher was beaten last night but the scoring is shit.He landed at least 4 body shots that wernt counted and a few to the head. I really dislike the way amature boxing is scored. The worst was the fight after when the Chinese guy lost his opponent landed continual punches time and time again and they wernt scored. Amature boxing is absolutly biased , if they dont want some one to win they simply dont push the button its crap.
Re: AUSSIE TV SCHEDULE FOR OLYMPICS
yeah, same here. when I went to Comm games in melb totally bewildered by 1. lack of scoring for body punches and 2. the amount of times the ref stopped and warned boxers about crisp, perfect body shots.toppity wrote:the lack of body punch scoring looked bad fo the sport. The scoring is hard to believe sometimes but at least SBS is showing the boxing
