Rocky Dean gets British title shot

Post by Old bones Ian »

Yes, one of my fav boxers Rocky Dean gets his chance against great rival Matthew Marsh, they have boxed twice before , with Marsh winning both , but pushed all the way by Rocky.

Will it be 3rd time lucky for Rocky, i hope so

By showing that he can be competetive with the Champion in the past. The division doesn't have much depth, so I think this is okay as a voluntary defence.

Yes, he was competitive, and yes, the division is shallow, but still, I thought it was WINS that moved you up the pecking order. No offense, and I'm sure he will do the challenge justice, but he hasn't really got the WINNING form to be challenging for the British.

Really nice kid, Rocky. Had a good chat with him in Darlington when he boxed a draw (which was really a win) against Argy Ward.

I agree with oliverfennell. Dean's very game, but it's three years since his last meaningful wins in terms of the British title picture and even then you'd think those wins were more qualification for the English title.

Good luck to him anyway, it's hard to begrudge a brave trier like Dean his opportunity.

Yes, if you're going on good losing efforts to quality operators, Callaghan is way ahead of Dean.

Callaghan is with Matchroom so wouldn't get any SN jobs, but certainly should be ahead of Dean in the queue

Marsh beat Pickering, who won every round vs Callaghan with plenty to spare. How does this chain of events lead to Callaghan being worthy of a shot?

Not sure he's worthy of a title shot, but certainly should be higher up the pecking order than Dean.

callaghan lost to a better pickering that night where marsh's fight was well timed to catch pickering on the way down??

marsh can't make the weight, looked knackered at super bantam last time he fought dean(by his own admission - see post match interview on allegedly.tv). even his coach said he's more comfortable at feather. don't be suprised if he avoids this contest.

He is the champ at super bantamweight and nothing at featherweight. Why would he avoid this fight just because he is more "comfortable" at the weight above? He would be foolish to do so.

He seemed fine against Pickering and had plenty of stamina that night. This isn't a mandatory defence it's a voluntary so his team would have looked for the fight in the first place. It would make no sense to subsequently avoid the fight, especially against a man you've beaten twice.

The dark horse in this division is Josh Wale.
He takes on Callaghan on the 20th and if he prevails (and I fully expect him to do so) then maybe he'll get his chance if this is the barometer to go by.

firstly, marsh beat a spent force in pickering (although he did very well in doing so). secondly, he got a shot at becoming british champ so he took it (who wouldn't in his position). i believe he would rather have fought at super bantam but given the above, he thought - why not?, i'm no longer undefeated anyway so i've got nothing to lose.
