de la hoya vs Manny P
It looks likely to happen now.De la Hoya is just too big for him, surely.I think he will stop him in about 7 rounds.he probably has to, otherwise Manny will be miles to fit for him.

Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
I think its a stupid idea all round, The size differences are just too much. Pac could get ruined by putting on too much muscle as well as getting knocked out or badly beat up.
Manny could pull it off because he's a great fighter but its big, big ask. the odds are stacked all in DLH's favour.
it all seems really unfair on Pac.

Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
Roy Jones Jnr V Felix Trinidad, Axel Schulz V Brian Minto, Jeff Fenech V Azumah Nelson and now Manny Pacquio V Oscar De La Hoya. Will there be no end to these pantomime contests??

No-one is forcing him to take the fight.Punchy Joe wrote:I think its a stupid idea all round, The size differences are just too much. Pac could get ruined by putting on too much muscle as well as getting knocked out or badly beat up.

Id fight Wlad Klitscko for 500 quid that dont make it a fair fight does it??No-one is forcing him to take the fight.
Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
There is a difference between calling it a "fair fight" and then calling it as saying its "unfair on someone".
If you fought Klitchsko, I probably wouldn't watch it - but would I feel you've been hard done by or sorry for you... no.
Its not as if Pacquiao has no other options... he does, just wants the money option. Nothing wrong with that, so why make it out he is a victim of something.

Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
I never said Pac was a victim in anyway at all, that still doesn't mean I think its a fair fight. Just because he wants to take the fight, feels he can win it and wants the money, it doesn't all of a sudden make it fair.
My own opinion is that Pacquiao has no real chance, but will I feel sorry for him if Oscar brutally knocks him out?? not really, (OK maybe a little bit, call me soft).
Don't understand really what your beef is with what I wrote?? You think delahoya's size and weight advantage over Pacman is fair?? just because Manny agrees to it and makes lots of money??
Whether you would feel sorry for me if I Wlad smashed the shit out of me is besides the point(and I would never expect you too) its still not a fair fight, even if I got paid 500 million.

Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
Which weight will Pacman fight at afterwards? Probably Lightweight, yeah? If so, I'm not sure he'd want to put on much muscle, just dehydrate less.Punchy Joe wrote:I think its a stupid idea all round, The size differences are just too much. Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
This will do next to nothing for DLH's legacy, but I'm excited nonetheless. DLH's fights haven't been about his lagacy since he beat Hopkins, they're all about getting as many people interested as possibe -- and he's got me again.
Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
Thats fine, I guess I didn't like how you worded you're arguement as "unfair on pac". Gave me the impression that you thought he was being held at gun point or something to sign the fight. He has other options... as many if not more than DLH. Boxing Monthly's rather OTT editorial (in my view) forgets the fact that Oscar had 4 options before Pacquiao - all of whom are bigger... all of whom have either turned it down (Tito and Hatton, Mayweather) or blown their chances (Cotto).Punchy Joe wrote:I never said Pac was a victim in anyway at all, that still doesn't mean I think its a fair fight. Respect for Pacquaio for taking this fight, if its been signed, but not sure why DLH is being painted as a bad guy. DLH did approach others, bigger names and bigger fighters before and wants to call a end in 2008 and not hang around till they become available (Hatton). He wants the biggest possible send off, and unfortunately, that will not be against a Light Middle (no star names) and really only Margarito there is now at Welterweight.

Fair enough, it does look a bit like you say reading it back. I should have worded it better in the first place really, but I'm no writer.Thats fine, I guess I didn't like how you worded you're arguement as "unfair on pac". DELAHOYA - PACQUIAO IS ON!
The wait is over and the fight is on…Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion "The Golden Boy" OSCAR DE LA HOYA will face current Ring Magazine No. 1-ranked pound for pound champion MANNY "Pacman" PACQUIAO on Saturday, December 6 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada in a bout that will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View.
Presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank, Inc., the bout will be a 12-round, non-title fight contested at the 147-pound welterweight limit. This exciting and intriguing match-up pits two of the most recognizable and popular talents in the sport today in what will surely be the grand finale of the 2008 boxing calendar year. "Manny Pacquiao is considered the best fighter in boxing today and I always want to fight the best," said De La Hoya. "I am glad we were able to make this fight happen because while Pacquiao is at the pinnacle of his success and has defeated all of the top fighters he has faced, I am going to show the world that it stops with me. December 6 can't get here soon enough." "This is my greatest challenge," said Pacquiao. "When I take that walk to the ring to fight Oscar, I will carry all the people of The Philippines - the entire country - on my shoulders. I promise I will fight with all of my heart and that I will give everything I have. Like my trainer Freddie Roach says, I have what it takes to win the biggest fight of my life."After several weeks of amicable discussions between De La Hoya's company, Golden Boy Promotions, and Pacquiao's promoter, Top Rank, Inc., a deal was struck this week ensuring fans around the world the opportunity to see this dream match-up. Richard Schaefer, Chief Executive Officer, Golden Boy Promotions said, "This fight will have the whole world talking and will be a fantastic night for boxing. Oscar's career has always been defined by taking on the biggest challenges and fighting best names in boxing. This fight against a great champion like Manny Pacquiao is just another testament to his readiness to face the strongest competition and continue his legacy as one of the greatest fighters boxing has ever seen."Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, Chairman of the Board, Top Rank added, "This fight is what all sports fans are looking forward to, a contest between two champions who come to fight and who are the most popular names in boxing today. Manny Pacquiao is taking on a major task in facing the legendary Oscar de la Hoya, but we at Top Rank are very confident Manny will handle himself extremely well."

Poor fight, Manny too small
Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
If it is at 147 then I agree with Kerry Kayes assessment on BM...... Its a danger for DLH aswell.

Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
should of been de la hoya-margarito.
not surprised oscar isn't too keen though.
pac is a handful and has that great stamina.
this could be more interesting than many people think.

Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
Looks like I'm going against the flow, picking Manny to win, and fairly easily as well, he will be too fast :)
Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
I think Manny could possibly do it with speed and movement but add the reach disadvantage and the fast powerful left hook (similar to the one Marquez turned him to jelly with once in the rematch) it doesn't look too good.
One thing that i think GB may have overlooked is that this won't be some glorious final act of his career. He has set himself up as the villain and everyone will be rooting for the plucky little underdog. I expect plenty of booing before and after for Goldie whatever the result. I don't expect that's how he was expecting to end his career.

You gonna go?
Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
This is a disgusting match that takes the p1ss out of boxing fans IMO. It will be marketed to people who know jack about the sport as a fair fight when in reality Oscar is far too big. Why doesn't Oscar fight David Haye? This is Celebrity Boxing, no more, no less. If he isn't seeking out challenges any more he should hang 'em up.
I say this having been a fan of De La Hoya throughout his career. This is a disgrace. :x

Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
Exactly! De La Hoya will struggle to make 147lbs despite him probably claiming that he won't find it hard. I believe Oscar struggled to make 150lbs for Forbes.stujones wrote:If it is at 147 then I agree with Kerry Kayes assessment on BM...... Its a danger for DLH aswell.
Speed is the key for Pacquiao so I can't see him being near the Welter limit of 147lbs at the weigh in. De Hoya will will be right on the limit of 147lbs, you watch!
Notice how Oscar didn't allow the Mayweather fight be contested at Welter!

Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
Manny has Zero chance against Oscar.
Oscar has taken flush shots from Vargas, Trinidad, and Mosley - Pacman doesn't even have power at 135, let alone moving up into Oscar's territory, and Oscar was also quick enough to hang with Mayweather.
Oscar will probably stop Pacman, he hits bloody hard compared to ANYONE Pacman has faced, and will be able to take anything Manny can dish out.
This is, quite simply, a no-contest.

Re: de la hoya vs Manny P
Totally disagree that Manny has no chance, I think he'll be too fast for Oscar to land the big punches, and we all know after 6 rounds Oscar fades, which is no good against a wee workhorse like Manny. Go on Pacman, give the twat a red neck

The Floyd rematch was supposed to be at Welter that's why he went part way there for the Forbes fight.
Poncey, i can't see me going. I'd love to be there if Pacman did it but supporting this would leave too much of a bad taste in my mouth.
