Luke - do you remember how the Jordan shoes fell apart at the Trials? The soles separated from the shoe on almost all. 8)Oscar wore the same brand Jordan shoes that our olympians and pan am team wore

The Jordan brand shoe that they came out with originally and still sell is one of the WORSE boxing shoes made. It feels like it weighs 10lbs. each and unless your a very large heavyweight that doesn't need to move - I wouldn't recommend it for any boxers. The new USA shoe (similar style to the one that they gave out at the Natl. JOs a couple years back I believe) looks much much lighter. It is the same zip up style as the Nike Machomai's (Pacquiao's new shoe) and from what I hear - it's very comfortable.boxmel wrote:Luke - do you remember how the Jordan shoes fell apart at the Trials? the original jordan shoe is what roy jones specifically likes, as designed for him in beaverton, oregon at nike headquarters. they have a nice arch and when you pick your heal up to turn with your punch it helps you sit in a good stance. but moving sucks with them and i agree that what is good for roy jones is not what most of our amatuers need to be wearing. they don't make so many boxing shoes, and it is an indicator of why they are still available to buy since 2005 from title. i have some picks of the special shoes that were never available for sale for andre ward that mimic the jordan retro V and they are sweet, lowtop and very light. i agree also that the olympians did end up with good shoes.

Anyone know who is our shoe supplier now? I know former ED Lamont Jones brokered the Jordan contract and don't know if it's still in effect or not.

Mel, I am looking at a pair right now, they are Jordan, made in China.boxmel wrote:Anyone know who is our shoe supplier now? I know former ED Lamont Jones brokered the Jordan contract and don't know if it's still in effect or not.

Thanks, Deb. Contract must still be in effect and quality control took over since last August? 8)

When I sat in the Brand Jordan meeting at the Pan Am Boxoffs, they mentioned the contract ended 12/31/08, and that they had an interest to sponsor the team until 2012. We will have to wait and see.

Luke, how come I see what seems like EVERYONE with the red, white and blue USA boxing shoes? How do they get those? I saw at least 4 or 5 pair at the Ringside tournament and judging by some of those wearing them - they didn't seem like elite boxers.lukerunion wrote:the original jordan shoe is what roy jones specifically likes, as designed for him in beaverton, oregon at nike headquarters. they have a nice arch and when you pick your heal up to turn with your punch it helps you sit in a good stance. but moving sucks with them and i agree that what is good for roy jones is not what most of our amatuers need to be wearing. they don't make so many boxing shoes, and it is an indicator of why they are still available to buy since 2005 from title. i have some picks of the special shoes that were never available for sale for andre ward that mimic the jordan retro V and they are sweet, lowtop and very light. i agree also that the olympians did end up with good shoes.

They have friends who are.
JO finalists, USA finalists, and I would assume people who have been on international duals or to the Olympic Trials all have those shoes.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Not only friends, but friends with the same shoe size.Kolya wrote:They have friends who are.![]()

koyla is right.
Re: Boxing shoes
How many of us remember the good 'ole leather soled boxing shoes? How about rosin next to the ring?
Would anyone want to go back to that? Probably not. Sometimes product evolvement is a good thing. I still remember my first pair of Adidas boxing shoes with the rubber sole. They were state of the art.

Re: Boxing shoes
There's a guy out of Texas I believe that still makes custom shoes of really good quality. I think his name is Wayne and I think they are called Classics. We have a pair that has been handed down to 3 of our boxers over the past 10 years and they are still in good condition after a ton of use. I haven't even looked at them for a while. Anyhow, they don't make them like that anymoreDennis wrote:How many of us remember the good 'ole leather soled boxing shoes? How about rosin next to the ring?

I've gotten good feedback on the Nike Machomai's though. Very light (266g) and comfortable.

I have a pair of Machomais. They're good, very light and easy to lace up like you said, and they have good arch support. Great grip too. What I don't like is the top is designed to be loose and I don't like that feeling; because I move so much I like them to be tight around the ankles and up top. That's why I like Adidas shoes so much.
Re: Boxing shoes
i have owned and fought in more then a few pairs the best shoe i ever boxed in was
the tall adidas i think "speed champs...??"
felt like i was on my toes standing flat, might not be a punchers first pick,
but i would think it would be the best pick for today current amateur scoring system of hit and run.

Re: Boxing shoes
Those speedchamps are very similar to the Adidas shoes I bought back in 1980 or 1981. Mine were blue with a "highlighter colored" yellow. They were comfortable, light and fairly durable.
