OT - Murray beat Nadal!
My word, that's some result. I know its not nadals surface, but he has been in the form of his career and Murray closed out the match against him.
Nadal won the third set when they resumed play, and then was 3-1 up in the fourth set, but Murray won it 6-4, that's some result against Nadal, who isn't the sort of guy who normally gives in easily.

I forgot all about this after the rain break. Incredible result for Murray breaking the duck against Nadal. Hope he doesn't come out a bit flat of the back of that.
Fantastic effort.

You're right pal. If he does win the US Open he should absolutely not be recognised for that sporting achievement based on his seemingly taciturn focused miserly personality misfit wankery interviews.sweetscience wrote:personality ???REAL_DEAL wrote:Great result he could nick sports personality if he wins the US open. Crikey - thats brilliant. My word this is going to be a hard BBC Sports Personality this year.
Guess that is one leading contender for Overseas out of it!
Considering Rusedski won it for making the final... think Murray could get it but surely he HAS to beat Federer and thats a tall ask the way Roger has played in the tournament.
Hamilton could WIN the F1 this year, and Addington and Hoy's achievements in the Olympics were especially good (particularly Addington).
Unified Cruiserweight champion doesn't look like he will even make the audience!

Well done Murray.
Want Federer to win because I like seeing genuine champions dominate, but well done nonetheless.

Still think Hoy deserves it even if Murray and Hamilton win.

It was incredible, I don't know who to support in the final because I like both guys.
The British won't embrace Murray of course because he is a winner.

Murray was outstanding. He's so different to 'Tiger' Tim in many ways. He took it to Nadal - who absolutely mullahed him at Wimbledon.Riddick Blowe wrote:It was incredible, I don't know who to support in the final because I like both guys.

One reason the English don't like Murray is, apparently, because before the 2006 World Cup he was asked who he wanted to win and he said 'Anyone but England'. He was hammered for this.
I respected him more. What self respecting Jock would say anything else?

Not that I expect any sympathy from you lot, but....
Was at the semi (I'm a bit of a tennis nut) and have a ticket for the final but as its been moved to today I have to miss it to take a business trip to Germany....

What about Sir Ben Ainslie?
Re: OT - Murray beat Nadal!
Yes I agree, nice to see him being honest... although think he could show more "scottish" occasionally.. like he supports Barcelona as much as any Scottish club... again, he lived there for years so admire his honesty - just think given his background he could be an absolute icon if he did embrace his nationality a bit more.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Murray was outstanding. Bit harsh! He's born with a mono tone voice and is in his early twenties. Seem an alright fella tho. You can't exactly expect Bruce Forsyth. I much prefer him to that stiff Henman.SticknMove wrote:You're right pal. Sports personality has never been about 'personality' but about achievement. It's a hell of an achievement beating Nadal in the semis and it would be an outstanding feat if he beats Federer in the final. His focused understated attitude doesn't bother me in the least.
Good luck to him.

I bloody well will.
Sorry, but Murray's achievement will spank Hoy's, he will be the first man in over 80 years from this country to win the US Open for 72 years or something like that in any case.

That just shows how little talent we have produced in Tennis, it's no reflection on someone in another sport imo.
Re: OT - Murray beat Nadal!
I have a contact within the British Cycling team and have even had the honour of going to Manchester 6 years ago and watching them train... They were so far ahead of the rest of the nations in terms of finance and sport science.
It could be claimed, indeed should be claimed... that Hoy won because of the system.... whereas Murray's achievements are inspite of it.
Although not so much Murray, who buggered off to Barcelona to get the best coaching. But Henman anyway.
Thats why Addington is my pick over Hoy.... The GB swimming team has been in diseray untill fairly recently... her victories are slightly inspite of the system.

Federer at 1/2 should be snapped up ASAP in my opinion.

Good luck to Murray - he's a break down in the 1st set and playing the best tennis player to ever walk the earth, and someone who's not lost in five years at that venue. You're right Dioufy at those odds I hope you lumped on!!

Re: OT - Murray beat Nadal!
Murray was very unlucky not to get that all on Federer's service game, that shot was clearly out, and he should have had a break right there.
Murray is making Federer work hard for it, which is all he can do.
I am happy whoever wins, Federer is an absolute legend, and I'd like to see him win a grand slam, but of course I'd like to see Murray win too.
Murray is playing out of his skin out there. To even be hanging with Federer on the form he's on, is simply incredible. He went to sleep in the first set and looked out of it in the 2nd, but he's right in there now, great stuff.

Re: OT - Murray beat Nadal!
Congrats to Murray he had a great tournement and I'm sure this isnt the last grand slam final we'll see him in. When the Fed is in top form like he was today he's almost impossible to beat. Also Murray looked a tad jaded after struggles again Nadal and Del Potro. Great thing is he's only 21 - he's got a great future aheahpowd and of course congrats to Federer a living legend and arguably the greatest player of al time. Of course some plonkers will belittle Murrays achievement - I mean he only lost to an ATG
how crap is he?
how crap is he?
Re: OT - Murray beat Nadal!
Agree BP - worry is though Djorkovic is younger than Murray and Nadal is hardly past it. Still cannot see Federer ever regaining the #1 spot again (or if he does it will be brief) I can see Nadal ecplising him and his achievements.
Federer is an ATG - but to be up there saying the #2 or #3 he has to win the French.... can't see that happening.
At the moment he is like Sampras (missing the clay) and Lendl (missing the grass win).... got to really do it on all the surfaces.

True and tbh can't see him winning the french unless Nadal is injured when it comes round!
