Platinum Gloves in DC has been discontinued and hasn't been held since '01, '02. It was one of the best tournaments I've seen as far as the level of competition. In 2001, Gary Russell Jr. vs. Saddam Ali, Dominic Wade, Bear Richardson, Harold Parker all participated. In 2002, Gary Russell Jr. vs. Prenice Brewer (both would win Natl. GG in 2005), Miguel Gonzalez (Natl Silver, lost to Ali in '07 Trials finals) vs. Willie Nelson (Under 19 Champ, 2005 Tammer Tourn Champ in Finland), Deon Richardson vs. Dominic Wade, Tiger Allen vs. Kevin Cagle and my personal favorite - 2004 Olympian Rock Allen vs. Maxell "The General" Taylor.

I have info on the Manuel Torrez and Gene Lewis tournaments. Please email me at [email protected].

Blue & Gold is probably not going to happen in 2009. It didn't happen in 2008.

Some of the best tournaments have faded away. Another top one was the 2 day invitational, the ABC Tournament in Wisconsin. They would select 4 of the best boxers in the country for each weight class (they would try to select one boxer of the 4 in each weight class from Wisconsin).
