Mark Potter v Butterbean EBF world title result!

Post by Haighy »

Mark potter easily destroyed Butterbean in blackpool last nite stopping him at 2-50 of the first of a scheduled 4 at the packed syndicate superclub to become the new EBF world heavyweight champion, Potter boxed really well picking "Bean" apart with a lovely jab and following up with straight rights and left hooks. Bean never got going and the only punch of note he landed was a half decent left hook which made potter step back but it was more balance than anything, to be fair Potter looked in awesome shape and much better than in his later BBBC pro days and would give alot of the current heavies major problems.

I heard that Butterbean was a disgrace and didn't even try to throw a shot back, but nobody would begrudge Mark a bit of glory.

Mark would be great in Prizefighter

We should get Peter Buckley and Karl Taylor (or some of similar ilk) to contest it as a fans protest against the ABC's, we could call it 'www.BritishBoxing.nets and Boxrecs WTF Belt'. If we're gonna get into the spirit of things we could mandate 1 strange opponent once every 4 years and the rest can be voluntary defences against anyone with a pro-licence (as with the real ABC's)

Potter looks in good shape. Has he been busy on the unlicensed circuit?

Butterbean looks like an (impatient) heart attack waiting to happen.

'potter looks in excellent shape, he told me he was more ripped than david haye!!'

But sadly legally blind in one eye, hence the fact he was refused his BBBC license, and is forced to participate in this type of obscenity
Potter himself told me his licence was pulled because he had an eye operation which involved having an artificial lens fitted. Apparently his sight is fine but the BBBC won't license anyone who has a foreign body in the eye. He is appealing against the ban and reckons he has the opportunity to fight pro in Spain if he can't come back in the UK.

This is only what he told me, mind. But if it's true, he's far from "legally blind in one eye". Still, the Board has to err on the side of caution.

i agree oliver, the board have to stick to their rules and act on the side of caution. mark had a detached retina (in training i believe for the sprott fight) and consequently developed other eye issues which were rectified at moorfields.

it seems to be ok for MAB to fight with a metal plate in his head ??

was ok for frank bruno to fight after a retinal detachment ??

so i understand where mark is coming from, i think if boxing is in your blood then it just wont go away, and potter is still regretting trying to KO williams (brit/comm title fight) while williams arm was hanging out and it was about 15 secs from the end of the round and a sure doctors stoppage.

Did anyone camcorder?

Merits a YouTube video.

Why couldn't Potter get in that kind of shape for his important pro fights like Michael Sprott, when he was actually much younger?
