Hot Prospect Josh Wale To Now Face Ramogoadi

By Andrew Wake: Brampton’s exciting super-bantamweight prospect Josh "The Outlaw" Wale makes his long awaited television debut on Setanta this weekend but today he has had to deal with the disappointment of opponent Marc Callaghan pulling out due to illness.

But the good news for the 20-year-old is that, after some frantic calling around, his manager Dave Coldwell has secured him a somewhat tougher fight with Rugby-based South African Harry Ramogoadi.

"He’s fought at super-featherweight and the only guys who’ve beaten him have been top fighters like John Murray, Nicky Cook and Kevin Mitchell so he’s dangerous," Said Wale. "He only just lost to that African [Tshifhiwa] Munyai who beat Martin Power, I think there was only two points in it over eight rounds.

"He’s the type of opponent I need. It’s a step up with me only have seven pro fights and being 20-years-old but it’s one that I’m ready for."

Wale could have showcased his 200 punches a round style to a national television audience before now but decided to learn his trade the old fashioned way at some of British boxing’s more modest venues. However, after winning the Central Area title in only his fifth paid outing and dominating all seven of his foes, he is now ready for the big time.

"When we first turned pro me and my dad talked to a few promoters with TV deals but we decided to start on small hall shows and learn to get rid of any bad habits that way but everything has fallen into place now with Hayemaker.

"I had other offers from promoters but we decided to go with Hayemaker because they’re upcoming promoters and I’m an upcoming fighter so everything seemed right and they’ve got a partnership with Oscar De La Hoya which means I can spar with Goldenboy’s fighters in the future.

"I’m not a fighter who wants to be rapped in cotton wool and fight 25 journeymen before I fight for an area title against someone I’ve fought in my fourth or fifth fight. I want to be pushed and Hayemaker want to push me."

At Wale’s tender age there is no reason for him to be rushed into the domestic title class but having sparred the likes of European champion Rendall Munroe, he feels that he is already able to win the British 8st 10Ibs crown but worries that his all action style may put current champion Matthew Marsh off.

"I think I’m ready now," He said. "I’ve sparred good fighters and I’ve not lost a round as a professional. I’d love to go for it but I don’t think I’ll get a shot as a voluntary, I think the board will have to do something to make it happen."

He added: "If I perform well in this fight in front of the cameras then hopefully we will go from there."
