Bunceys Boxing Hour is Excellent

Bunceys show is fantastic every week, but this week was somat else!! The interviews with RJJ and Calzaghe were the best interviews I've seen with either, they were both very honest and revealing instead of there usual elusive selves. Fair play to Buncey he asks the questions we want to know the answers to, even if the boxer isn't 100% comfortable with the subject, but in fairness all the boxers seem to like him and he gets the best out of alot of them.

This weeks show had the first class RJJ and JC interviews, Kelly Pavlik and Bernard Hopkins (who was his usual self-assured self ) both phoned the show and discussed possible and past fights at length. David Haye, Frank Bruno, Adam Booth (who was very promising about a fight with Wlad) all had somat to say as well. Some of the banter that RJJ and Nard come out with had me laughing out loud (like  that). allegedly kops abit of flack from RJJ and JC for stopping the fight happening years ago

I was transfixed to the show for the full hour, its almost worth the Setanta subscription fee in itself if you're a boxing nut. It's repeated on Friday for enyone that missed the original and has setanta access

 Buncey!

Yes, I aint a fan of Buncey - but I am a fan of this show. Its shows like this where he is in his element, that and the documentary style things he did for the BEEB (Hopkins, Laing etc).

Love the fact that Setanta don't mind discussing fights on other networks - that is commendable.

In some ways it is quite bad they have a limited footage (of the domestic scene especially) but in other ways - that can be better for a show like. For example, I prefer John Barnes' football night (minus the dodgy reading of the autocue) to Football focus - cause it doesn't spend any time showcasing Goals you've seen a dozen times... straight to the point of debating the issue.

Although the beauty of ringside on Sky, was that it often showcased fights in full of the "not televised" undercard the week before... now that was what made Ringside unmissable.

Ringside was the nuts in it's day but still, its great to see a studio based boxing show that covers issues in the sport as well as the Setanta hour does: good interviews, reviews of fights and looking ahead to future promotions.

Unmissable for true boxing fans. Setanta has become the must have boxing channel in my opinion now. I cancelled sky sports a couple of months back (something I never thought I would do) due to it only really having Friday Night Fights as a regular boxing outlet - it just no longer represented good value for money.

I missed it this week because of the football I suspect. I thought it would be on at 11.30. Looks like I’ll miss it tomorrow as well. Shame since it sounds like it was an entertaining show.

I’m not a fan of Bunce either, but he has a genuine enthusiasm for the game and understands the pantomimic merry-go-round that boxing can be. I am sure the hyperbolic one has worked very hard to get where he's at and has certainly carved out a niche for himself.

I find it surprising that a programme billed as 'Buncey's Boxing Hour' is hosted by a youngster cutting his teeth in the sports presenting world. It may be harsh but I don't see the need for this kid - get Dempsey in. Fvck that let Buncey host it - it's supposed to be his hour anyway. Organise the show so that he has his 15 mins of verbal and e-mail stuff and have other journos discuss upcoming fights, interviews and emails.

Actually if you get managers and promoters on the show as well we could get another soap opera drawn out over the week - preferably at the same time as Emerdale, Eastenders, Coronation Street and The Bill. :TU:

But seriously I'd like to see other journos other than Bunce compete for the type of exclusivity that he seems to enjoy.

Their editorial decision to embrace ALL fights, shows and fighters is to be saluted, lest we forget the snivelling SKY who often revealed the decisions in rival fights despite highlight shows on other channels. Dispicable disregard for fans. No, look away now, just down right cheap.

I love Setanta. I hope they stay a float and stick to their guns. The American shows are first rate, Bunce has a place that suits.

I think it's on at 2pm, Setanta News on a Thursday with a few repeats on Setanta 1 on Friday. This show pisses all over the old Ringside show IMO.

According to Buncey and his mate (Dempsey) the JD Chapman fight is still on... the soap opera around Hayes next opponent is getting well confusing

I strongly advise that everyone watches it, records it or begs the bar staff at the local pub to stick it on. I thought it was awesome!!

I likes it too, although i did throw my pipe at the TV is disgust when the clueless presenter said

"Thats why we at Setanta don't do PPV's!"

When Bunce said PPV's hurt boxing

The fact that Setanta doesn't have PPV facilities, doesn't come into it, yeah?

Yeah its a quality show its straight on when i get home on a thurs, much to the missus' disgust.

I have setanta but i dont think you need setanta to watch it. Its on setanta news which i think doesnt require a subscription just a sky + box to record in the afternoon.

I prefer the regular guy to dempsey, i have never enjoyed his style think he is up himself and doesnt enjoy bunce getting the limelight.

Thats why we at Setanta have short memories!

Hopkins vs Haakar
Byrd vs Klitchsko II
Bennett vs Earl
Tyson vs McBride

Too name a few on Setanta PPV!

I think we all really need to get behind Setenta, there great competition for Sky who charged 15 quid for a shit Khan show (liked the cook fight tho)

Buncey is top class, very funny and controversial, just what you need

I've just watched a preview of the Joe Calzaghes interview that's about to be shown on the Excellent Steve Bunces Boxing Hour (Setanta news channel at 2 pm, with repeats on Setanta 2 at 7pm and Setanta 1 at 10pm, no doubt on youtube as well at some point).

In the interview Calzaghe says that wins over the likes of Froch and Dawson mean nothing and they wouldn't add nothing to his legacy because they haven't done anything yet, but I'm presuming that he thinks that a win over a 39 year old shot Roy Jones does mean something! In my eyes the win over RJJ does very little to his legacy as RJJ is obviously a shadow of the fighter he was. If JC would have beat him in 2000-2002 when they SHOULD have fought each other, then it would have been a Legendary result, but JC was too busy fighting Tocker Pudwill, Jiminez, Brewer, McIntyre, Veit).

Froch and Chad Dawson haven't got the BIG names on their records YET, but both fighters will go on to do well in the sport imo, so if Calzaghe was to to beat them the result would look alot better in 5 years time, it would obviously add to his legacy then. If Eubank would have beat Calzaghe then it wouldn't have added to Chris's legacy at the time, but it certainly would have done now.

Looking forward to seeing the Calzaghe interview in an hours time, he's supposed to share his thoughts on Carl Froch....... so no doubt I'll be back on this thread a few hours time :D

As it comes so highly recommended I'll see if the Mrs can tape it for us!

I have a feeling I might get a bit animated during this Joe Calslap interview :box:

Tape it every week (I've got it on series link on Sky+) it's a quality show, plenty of interviews with the top fighters and promoters from around the World. He should give me a job we could call it the 'Stuart Chambers and Steve Bunces Boxing hour' :DDD
