Should the BBBoC step in.

Okay, so we have all had a go at Warren - I think its only fair that other promoters should get criticism when it is due.

I have no problems with the main event and chief support on Sky's Friday Night bill.

But really - should the world class Ajose Olusegun be allowed to fight someone with a 1-3-1 record! over 8 rounds.

I've written to the board on a couple of occasions about what i consider mismatches, and have never recieved a reply.

There's nothing worse in boxing, than poorly matched shows ie home fighters V Birmingham loosers (Sorry Mr nobb's)
The BBBOC should introduce a seeding/rank system to be placed on promotional fight posters, then the paying public would be able to judge if fights are fairly matched.

Cos this seems the norm

Home fighter 8-0 (ranked 25/75) V Away fighter 10-3-111 (ranked 70/75) X 5 fights

No i wouldn't pay £ for this !!!!!

I know this might seem mad, but he's not that bad actually. I saw him fight last month and he beat Ryan Barrett IMHO.

However, Olusegun does have some thunder so it could end up looking terrible.

Look who Clinton fought before Jones Jnr.

His record was, from memory 8-9 at the time.

Giovanni Frontin lost to Frankie Gavin in the final of the Commonwealth Games in 2006, he's better than his record suggests.

I'm never keen on that saying 'he's better than his record suggests', because he's not, he may be a decent boxer, but the record doesn't lie. He doesn't win.

sorry just something that bugs me.

Well I witnessed the bloodbath against Spitko, who was 4-4 at the time, so if that's anything to go by then yes it seems a weird marking time decision to put this kid in.

can you name Frontin's more famous family member?

Haven't got a clue - but I'm sure Jamie Sanigar will know.

The one i wrote about was the Ryan Rhodes v Olufemi Moses mismatch.
which is much like the proposed Olusegun v Frontin match.

An established boxer versus a decent amateur with not much pro experience.

Rhodes won in 2 rounds.

I think a worry for me is that it is a scheduled 8 rounder, what happens if Frontin can take a whack - he could get really damaged over 8 rounds. Frontin at the moment should only be involved in 4/6 rounders.

Old Bones,
That's a bit insular, isolating that Rhodes fight.
Look a bit closer "darn sarth" mate, and select from numerous on the Kevin Mitchell slate as an example ! :TU:

Don't worry twenty six, i did email my concerns about one of kevin mitchells opponents last year, but luckily that fight didn't go ahead.

It wasn't anything to do with Rhodes being north of Watford, the Moses fight was a mismatch.
and i think the Olusegun v Frontin is one as well.

Not for a minute concerned Ian.
I think if we all applied our minds to the subject the list would be extensive.

When I see the term mismatch I always think of those poor guys who were thrown in against a prime Chavez when he decide he wanted to make a quick buck in between world title fights :D

I got involved when Esra Sellars was going to be served up to Enzo. Got a very good response from Simon Block, and naturally assume their subsequent decision not to sanction the bout was 100% down to me :TU:

Thing with these types of matches is every now and again one of the underdogs puts in a decent display , or goes the distance.
So the board seem to forget about the times when we have quick KO's , and glorified sparring sessions.

The BBBoC are for me , the premier boxing ruling body, but it doesn't mean they get it right all the time.

I can understand peoples concerns with this contest because on paper it certainly looks a mismatch but that certainly was not the case. We felt he had a chance and we certainly do our homework to ensure that there is as little chance as possible of our boxer being seriously hurt. I was not there to see the fight last night but my father Chris said it was a competitive and entertaining fight and was closer than the scoring suggests (60-55).

If you look closer at Frontin's record you can see he beat Ben Murphy who recently beat Celtic Champ Gary Buckland. He lost by one point to Spitko when a slip was counted as a knockdown losing him the fight. He had Scott Lawton in lots of trouble and Lawton admitted he could not remember the last round. He lost by one point to Nicki Smedley had him on the floor and in trouble. Drew with Ryan Barrett when everyone in the arena said he won the fight, Barrett is now challenging for the English Title. Even though his record is a losing one he has boxed in top company early on in his career, comes to win and is learning all the time.

Be good to hear the views of anyone who was at York Hall last night to see it?

Funny how the BoxRec forum memebrs disagree with some of the mismatches and the BBBoC actually tell promoters/matchmakers to use the BoxRec boxer records / results section when filling in the application forms for these fights to be santioned. Prehaps we should add a big notice to the boxers results pages once we hear a whisper of possible mismatches lol.

I can see what your saying Jamie, unfortunatly i didn't see the fight so cannot comment on it.
And i've no doubt that you think Frontin is a decent boxer, so where do you go from here with him?
Just keep putting him in with a higher class of boxer, or try and build him up into a boxer capable of competing for titles?

Its not a critisism , i'm just interested in how the boxers see themselves as well.

Maloney has previous form in this area. In 2006, 23-0 Gary Woolcombe beat 1-4 Alex Stoda via DQ in Barnsley. It's getting like Australia; where's the WBF when you need them!
