28 days after stoppage??

Just looking throught the results and noticed Ciran Healy boxed twice this month, firstly being stopped by Matthew Hall, then boxed few weeks after winning on points

I always thought you get suspended for 28 days after a stoppage defeat, or am i wrong??

Think that's in Britain, he boxed in southern Ireland I think.

One of those loses was in Ireland - but you would think someone would have stopped him fighting so soon after a ko loss?

I suppose the 28 day rule is a medical suspension for a reason.

Yep not saying your not right DG just saying that I hink that's why he was allowed. No way should someone who was stopped, especially by a head shot, be allowed to box within 28 days.

Don't worry Mooresy, not disagreeing with you.

I also think it is shocking that he would fight so soon after being stopped.

No one connected to the fighter should have allowed this. Everyone from the Promoter all the way down should me made to answer some questions.

The fighter does not appear to have been hurt but who knows what damage is under the surface.

Does anyone know if the first KO loss was as a result of head shots? Be interesting to know, either way the authorities should not have allowed him to fight.

Yep it was Matty Hall who stopped him with a head shot. Hard shot as well, he wasn't out cold but still shook him up pretty bad. out cold or stopped on his feet, still shouldn't have fought, or been allowed to fight. Some fighters need saving from themselves.

They've got around the rules that's for sure.
Often the journeymen can be seen hanging on for dear life in a final round, trying to make sure they don't get a suspension for a stoppage, and meaning they can fight the following week.
That said as Mooresy points out, some of these guys need saving from themselves.

So, it was a head shot that stopped him. Shame on all concerned for allowing this fight to happen.

I'm not 100% sure but is it not down to the difference between a KO stoppage and a RSC. KO - 28 day off or RSC - good to go next week.

The BBBoC would have known about the Ireland fight anyway as Healy is registered with the BBBoC (as fas as I know) and would have to fill in the permission to box abroad forms etc.

I think a stoppage is a stoppage whetwr it be by ko - tko or rsc - eother way you were deemed not fit to take another punch!

The BBBOC should clarify.

This is a quote out of the BBBofC rules book "Any contest (wheresoever it takes place) being stopped by the Referee (other than by reason of disqualification), or the retirement of a Boxer, or by a Boxer being counted out in a contest; then the licence of such a Boxer shall be automatically suspended for a period from at least 28 clear days to 45 clear days at the discretion of the Board's Senior Medical Officer present at the tournament."

If you get stopped then you get a piece of paper handed to you saying you cant fight for 28days. You have to get a medical by a doctor in the mean time to say you are fit to fight once your suspension is up. I fought 29 days after being stopped recentley. Healy must have slipped through the net.

Thabnks for that Daley, they must have missed this one. I was asking a few guys tonight at the 9CO AMA bouts and they said the same as you on both the Irish and British side of things, KO, TKO, RSC, RSF is a 28 day ban. i really am not sure how he managed to get through the net as they do ask for last contest details on all the forms ?
