I didn't know that Buckley's debut opponent was also making his bow...yet never boxed again. What a contrast.

That's an excellent piece and a fitting tribute to Prof Peter Buckley

It's a pity these tabloids (i.e. The Times) couldn't come up with a similar tribute rather than that sensationalist drivel that Ron Lewis and his prick of a sub-editor come up with.

I'm not a fan of Buckley but is an excellent, informative article which I enjoyed reading.

Yeah, it is a very good article.

I just wonder if, when he looks back on his career, Buckley will regret not having the chance to fight more fighters who were at his own level- IE 50-50 fights.

Tony Booth for example always mixed his fights- bouts against hot prspects, future world champions etc were mixed with well matched fights, often in Hull.

Its sadly becomeing very rare to see fighters matched against opponents who are at their own level. Guys like James Tucker, Johnny Greaves, Robin Deakin, Paul Royston etc are all talented and fit- seems only fair play to give them a fair match up once in a while.
