Can't you think of a better name than Horse? Or were you after a different kind of criticism?
Re: British Top 30 P4P November 2008
I didn't want to move him up too many places at one time. Munroe has made a couple of defences of his European title, so I thought I would keep him above Napa for now.DG. wrote:Napa should be in at 10.
Arthur looked poor against Cook, but I don't think he should fall too far down the list because of one poor performance.DG. wrote:AAA should be lower.
Re: British Top 30 P4P November 2008
how can you put woods so high up
Re: British Top 30 P4P November 2008
In the last 18 months:DG. wrote:Khan should not be so high up.
Lynes - Rees - Danny Willianms and others have beaten better fighters.
Khan has beaten - Limond, Lawton, Earl, St. Clair, Kristjansen and Gomez.
Lynes has beaten - Morrison, Mutley and Tolppola.
Rees has beaten - M'Baye.
Williams has beaten - McGee, Airich and McDermott.
I think that Khan has the better overall wins in the last 18 months, and I think that his place in the list is fair.

He was the IBF champion until quite recently, beating decent opposition as champion.1southpaw wrote:how can you put woods so high up
How many places lower could I put him? Surely not outside of the top 10?

Oooh there's a shock - a Dubliner backing a Dubliner !
Your man has fought 5 times this year and between them the five opponents had lost 99 fights.
When he's got a decent notch on his belt then by all means start shouting from the rooftops.

Re: British Top 30 P4P November 2008
You would put Moore above Calzaghe, Hatton or Haye? Moore has got to get a top opponent in the ring with him, and then beat him, if he is going to get any higher in the rankings.ADAMBURKE wrote:Jamie Moore SHOULD BE HIGHER AT LEAST TOP 3
He is pretty good, yes.ADAMBURKE wrote:Ian Napa TOP CLASS
If I didn't have either Appleby or Lindsay in the list, then there would be no featherweights in the list at all. Which I think would be a bit odd as it is quite a good division domestically. They both had good wins, so I decided to include them.ADAMBURKE wrote:Martin Lindsay P4P NO CHANCE, ONLY HAD ONE DECENT WIN WITH A LUCKY PUNCH

I don't know too much about Hyland, but I doubt that he would knock either of them out within 4 rounds.

ive seen all of hylands fights, and i seen lindsay fight a few times and the same with appleby and trust me hyland to win by ko within 4rds, and as for jamie moore he is a top class boxer who just needs a break to show the world what he is capable of, and i dont rate duddy much, id perfer to have oisin fagan there instead or even andy lee,Horse wrote:You would put Moore above Calzaghe, Hatton or Haye? Re: British Top 30 P4P November 2008
Our European champions should be top 10 by default.
The likes of Arthur and Cook haven't beaten anyone above that level. Why does Arthur retain his top 10 ranking and yet Rees who loses to a world-class fighter having beaten one is way,w ay down. And Khan should suffer more for a spark out first round defeat to an unknown.

If Hyland is so good, when is he gonna step up to the plate ?

well he is currently the irish champion and by the end of 2009 he will hopefully fight for the european title, lindsay refused to fight him fo the irish title so what does that say about him, twenty six wrote:Andy,

everyone of the hyland would never refuse a fight, they would fight anyone but promoters dont wanna take a chance.

Re: British Top 30 P4P November 2008
If Hyland is as good as you say, then I am sure he will soon earn a place on the list. But, at the moment Appleby and Lindsay have beaten better opposition, and have to be ranked higher than him.ADAMBURKE wrote:ive seen all of hylands fights, and i seen lindsay fight a few times and the same with appleby and trust me hyland to win by ko within 4rds
When he gets his break I can move him up, but until then I can't do it.ADAMBURKE wrote:and as for jamie moore he is a top class boxer who just needs a break to show the world what he is capable of
Duddy is fighting in a world title eliminator soon, so we will see whether he deserves his place or not then. If Fagan beats Khan, then he is in. Lee lost a fight fairly recently, and I think that he needs to beat better opposition before I can give him a place on he list.ADAMBURKE wrote:and i dont rate duddy much, id perfer to have oisin fagan there instead or even andy lee

even without beating khan, fagan is a better p4p fighter than duddy any dayHorse wrote:If Hyland is as good as you say, then I am sure he will soon earn a place on the list. lindsays only opposition was derry matthews which that fight matthews was winning every rnd but 1 lucky punch sorted that out,

yeah im proud to say i do know him and his 2 brothers, and out of the 3 i rate patrick the highest, i seen him sparring with kiko martinez in spain and his first session he put kiko down twice with body shots, the lad has amazing punching powerCaptain Hook wrote:Do you know Hyland personally?ADAMBURKE wrote:well he is currently the irish champion and by the end of 2009 he will hopefully fight for the european title, lindsay refused to fight him fo the irish title so what does that say about him, twenty six wrote:Andy,

Re: British Top 30 P4P November 2008
Adam,
Sorry mate, but holding the Irish title doesn't cut it in reality.
I've looked through his record - hardly household names is it ?
That's what I meant by stepping up to the plate.
Let's see what he has to offer against a decent ranking opponent then we can review it.
Until then, you cannot make out he's the second coming.
With respect, Lindsay's stunning finish against Matthews beats anything on Hyland's record.
If your story of sparring with Martinez is accurate, fair dos, but to be honest I'm sick of hearing stories of average boxers allegedly putting World Class operators on their arse - witnessed by ?
If that all happened on the first day, I assume he packed his bags and came home on day 2.

Re: British Top 30 P4P November 2008
and what does a british title hold that an irish doesnt, and that guy peter buckley someone who has had 300 fight said recently out of all his fights he only rates 1 guy which is patrick hyland, twenty six wrote:Adam,

and how come that guy john gicharu took derry matthews 8 rounds and patrick took 52 secs of the first round to beat him, then there is paul griffin 24-4 and patrick put him away within 3 rds,
opinons vary i suppose, but keep the name in mind cos there is big things to come,
that is if the fights are offered but lindsay wont take the fight (already refused), and im quite sure appleby wont either,
Re: British Top 30 P4P November 2008
The most obvious example I can think of, to suggest that it is a bad idea, is Ted Bami's reign as European champion. Beating Lauri to win the title and defending it once against the same guy is not, in my opinion, good enough to earn a top 10 ranking. I think it is better to base the rankings more on the quality of opposition, rather than the belt the fighter is carrying.DavidPayne wrote:Our European champions should be top 10 by default.
Cook beat Arthur who is above that level. Arthur was a good European champion, and made quite a few decent defences, which is something that our current European champions have yet to do. Rees didn't fall that far down the rankings after his loss, he has fallen further since then due to inactivity.DavidPayne wrote:The likes of Arthur and Cook haven't beaten anyone above that level. Why does Arthur retain his top 10 ranking and yet Rees who loses to a world-class fighter having beaten one is way,w ay down.
Khan has a number of good wins on his record, which I don't think should be cancelled out by one loss. I dropped him about 5 or 6 places after his loss, which I think is fair.DavidPayne wrote:And Khan should suffer more for a spark out first round defeat to an unknown.

Without wishing to get too involved....
Aren't Lindsay and Appleby meeting up for the British Featherweight Title soon (that being the point of the Lindsay-Matthews fight)
In the scheme of things, the British title is still a prestigious belt in boxing, enough that many Irish boxers who qualify for it compete for it. The Irish belt doesnt hold the same cache in the wider world, does it?
