David Haye
I simply cannot understand why this board is not debating more about David Haye.
Haye fights in 2 weeks time against Monte Barrett - yep okay its a fight Haye simply has to win and win well if people are going to take him seriously with regards to being a genuine Heavyweight contender - but in addition Haye in my view has proved an awful lot of people wrong with achievements thus far - former undisputed Cruiserweight Champion Of The World - and lets face it who gave him a chance of doing that after the Carl Thompson fight??
Haye has always stated a wish to achieve something BIG in the heavyweight ranks - does the forum no longer consider the heavyweight division as the "glamour" division and thus they are not interested what happens here? okay the heavyweight division has lacked the excitement and many will argue there are very few genuine world class fighters in that division - but where I fail to understand the lack of enthusiasm is that Haye is a brit and for Haye to become a serious contender in the heavyweight ranks - it will do wonders for British Boxing.
Calzaghe could be about to retire. Hatton for me will lose against Malanaggi and thus British Boxing in my view is looking for a new star - its not going to be Amir Khan - no matter who his trainer is going to be - the next time he steps into world class and is tapped on the whiskers he will be visiting the canvas - so who is left?? - Carl Froch and David Haye.
I honestly believe as boxing fans we should get behind both fighters.
Does the board honestly believe Monte Barrett has no chance against Haye?? - My view is if the fight goes beyond 4 rounds the fight could become very interesting.

Re: David Haye
There have been loads of posts about Haye. I think most of us are just waiting to see what happens. Barrett has a chance of achieving the upset. I though the way he handled Fields was superb. I don't know what Haye will be like as a Heavyweight so I think this fight is 65-35 in Haye's favour, in my mind, right now. I'm sure some people would view this as a 50-50 fight.

Asterix - if you are correct in what you are saying then surely the fight is as equally as exciting as Jones/Calzage and Hatton/Malanaggi??Asterix wrote:There have been loads of posts about Haye. Re: David Haye
For me, it's more exciting. There's a much higher chance of a KO and the fight is far more balanced than the other two fights. All in my opinion, of course.Spud wrote:Asterix - if you are correct in what you are saying then surely the fight is as equally as exciting as Jones/Calzage and Hatton/Malanaggi??Asterix wrote:There have been loads of posts about Haye. Re: David Haye
To be honest, for a fighter that hasn't fought for eight months (since Enzo in March) Haye has done a brilliant job of keeping himself in the spotlight and keeping people talking about him. Without even throwing a punch since March, Haye has been the talk of the heavyweight division and has secured two top 10 rankings. He's been all over the place.
Like he said himself, now's the time for the talking to stop...

Re: David Haye
I'll be excited on the night. But there has been loads of talk for months, and the talk is not what gets me interested. I would rather have seen a busy, improving Haye fighting regularly, to be honest but he has too much to lose it seems.

Monte Barrett Isn't a world class heavyweight anyway, Tye Fields was an overprotected fighter with a china chin.

Re: David Haye
In my opinion Haye is going to go down in this fight, I believe he will get back up, and probably KO Barrett by the middle rounds at the latest, but have just got a feeling that this is going to be a case of "THAT is a heavyweight punch" and he will learn from it

I think Haye's a bit scared of Barrett, so he'll look to overwhelm him early. If I'm right about the outcome - Haye by KO inside two, we'll still be in the same boat regarding the questions over his defence at heavyweight.
I see him very much as a 'knock out or be knocked out' kind of guy at heavy.

Re: David Haye
That's exactly the way I see it, If Haye's punches don't have the desired effect early on then he's going to be in more and more trouble the longer the fights goes. I dont think he's going to find the shots later on in the fight the way he did against Mormeck and Fragomani.Grilling Machine wrote:I think Haye's a bit scared of Barrett, so he'll look to overwhelm him early. Then surely that is exactly what makes this fight with Barrett exciting - and compounds my astonishment why more people are not making more of a fuss of the fight??Punchy Joe wrote:That's exactly the way I see it, If Haye's punches don't have the desired effect early on then he's going to be in more and more trouble the longer the fights goes. Personally the likes of Froch at Hennessy and David Haye at his own promotional company - being in fights that are difficult to predict is what boxing needs and thus if those fighters reach the top we should celebrate them!!!
After an exciting couple of years or so with Calzaghe and Hatton and to a degree with Khan until his bubble was well and truly burst boxing in this country needs the likes of Haye and Froch to succeed??
And before anyone says it - If Haye sparks out Monty Barrett - I hope we are all going to celebrate the win rather than sit on that perch of "told you so".

Re: David Haye
Course I'll celebrate. I'm not patriotic but I've always supported Haye as a very talented underdog. He used to be a thin kid in his amateur days, so even if he fails up at heavy, his cruiserweight domination was a great achievement. Happily, his days of poor preparation seem to be behind him.
Both David and Monte did themselves a favour in their recent press conference. I like to see respect in the build-up. Boxers such as Pacquiao, Mosley and Kessler impress me with their pre-fight composure. I wish Calzaghe and Froch would tone down the hubris, because marketing sense or not, it does them a disservice. Joe's probably a really decent guy away from the cameras, but he stretches my patience with his posturing. There's no need for it.
On-topic: We are excited about Haye-Barrett, it just ain't Christmas yet.

I haven't seen the press conference before. Watching now. Here's the link: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sYxmeyA36aY
Re: David Haye
I'm well excited about this fight, Barrett's a BIG banana skin that could cause Haye some BIG problems if he's not on his game.
What time does this fight take place??? is it 10pm, 2am??
I think these extra pounds are going to suit Haye, well more the fact that he doesn't have to lose them prefight. Some people on the current scene seem to doubt that Haye'll carry up his power to the HW ranks, but I reckon they're going to be very surprised!!
From some of the Haye interviews I've saw/read, it sounds like Haye doesn't just want to win the fight he wants to do it in style and send a shockwave through the HW ranks. I reckon the fights going to be great whilst it lasts, I can see both fighters looking to load up early on.

Barrett even lost to Valuev who Is a limited fighter too. Barrett's not going to be quick or durable enough to catch Haye's shaky whiskers.
Haye going up to 17st Is not a good Idea either, he's a natural 15st heavyweight as he showed against Bonin. Bonin was only a journeymen but Haye retained his reflexes and power at 15st. His frame Is too small to go too high.

Lennox was lighter in recent photos, and he looked healthier for it. There is the weird belief that you need extra weight at heavy.

Re: David Haye
Cliff Couser Ko'd Barrett not so long back - that in itself is enough reason for me to know that Haye will do the same. Barrett is a decent opponent but Haye is just too good.
Re: David Haye
Valuev may be limited, but he's still a World champion and has only been beaten once, which was a majority decision. He's not easy to beat.Max Molyneux wrote:Barrett even lost to Valuev who Is a limited fighter too. Barrett's not going to be quick or durable enough to catch Haye's shaky whiskers.
Re: David Haye
I'm a big DH fan. His win over Mormeck in France was immense, and even his Fragomenni win stands up a lot better now.Spud wrote:I simply cannot understand why this board is not debating more about David Haye.
As others have said I think the reason I, like most others, is not "debating" the Barrett fight is that all the variables have been discussed to death post-Macca fight.
i think until he fights a real bomber, a real quickie or a Klitschko it's all gravy.

Re: David Haye
Looking forward to this fight more than any fight since...well Haye's last fight I suppose. Could go either way, though I've got a nasty feeling this could go badly wrong for DH.
He says he's going to jump on Barrett early, which I think he needs to do - the longer it goes, the more Barrett was a big chance I think.
But DH tends to be cautious early on when he's facing dangerous opponents - like Mormeck, and he didn't do too much in the first against Enzo either.
Going to be massive tension all round when the first bell goes...

He needed two attempts to beat Ruiz and got a gift decision In the 1st fight. Chagaev used his superior handspeed to outbox him.Asterix wrote:Valuev may be limited, but he's still a World champion and has only been beaten once, which was a majority decision. Skelton gave Chagaev a better fight.

I judge from the horrific display of "chewing gum with his mouth open on TV" we were subject to on Saturday that you are working for Hayemaker
Something new posters may want to bear in mind next time Spud give us his "objective opinions" on David Haye..
