Raushee Warren to Stay for 2012 Olympics
Per Jim Millman's email below, Raushee has agreed to stick around for London. I know that sponsors can give money to boxers as long as they go through USAB. I wonder what kind of deal Raushee got. . .
To all,
I’m delighted to report that Rau’Shee Warren has decided to return to USA Boxing to try to participate in his 3rd Olympic Games! If he qualifies, he will become the first boxer in US history to compete in 3 Summer Games.
Rau’Shee was upset in the first round in Beijing , following a gold medal win at the 2007 World Championships in Chicago . In Beijing after his defeat, he was the sole US Olympic boxer to support his teammates at practices and at all of their bouts. Rau’Shee was a model Olympian, and we are delighted that he will be returning. Now 21years old, he will be 25 at the London Games – absolutely prime age to excel and much closer in age and experience to his expected rivals from countries like Cuba and Russia .
Rau’Shee joins super-heavyweight Michael Hunter as two National Team athletes who will be returning.

What weight? 119? He boxed 119 at the Midwest Trials I believe so I could see him making the move up there and not staying at 112 for 4 more years.
Re: Raushee Warren to Stay for 2012 Olympics
thats amazing but much respect to him
Re: Raushee Warren to Stay for 2012 Olympics
He probably is going to get more money from USAB/USOC than he would from a promoter. The money isn't that big to turn pro, especially for flyweights. Rau'shee could earn more money by being "America's Darling" and doing endorsements, etc once he does turn pro. It would be a marketing tool to be able to say he is the only USA boxer to ever compete in 3 Olympics. If he could win gold it would be even better.
Re: Raushee Warren to Stay for 2012 Olympics
For sure, plus it's been his goal to win that Gold Medal to put around his mom's neck and I guess he feels he still owes it to her and himself to get that medal. After all, there are some thing in life that are more important than money.Dennis wrote:He probably is going to get more money from USAB/USOC than he would from a promoter. Re: Raushee Warren to Stay for 2012 Olympics
Raushee is also finghting at 119lbs. now.. He has to compete at our state level for the US Champioships since he is in a new weight class.
Re: Raushee Warren to Stay for 2012 Olympics
He'll make more money staying amateur than boxing pro in a lighter weighclass. The USOC is paying him good money, he can make money for winning medals in tournaments and when AIBA starts their pro league in 2010, he can fight in that and still box in the Olympics. He gets the best of both worlds. Only pros who box in AIBA's pro league can still be eligible to box in the Olympics and they'll get paid for that.indiana's_best wrote:why is raushee stayin for the 2012 olympics he have been to the olympics twice i was very dissapointed in his performance last year i think he needs to turn pro at 126lbs he would be i very dominant professional

Are you sure about that? Has your LBC tournament started yet?coachgiovanni wrote:Raushee is also finghting at 119lbs. now.. He has to compete at our state level for the US Champioships since he is in a new weight class.

Re: Raushee Warren to Stay for 2012 Olympics
Yes Im sure him and his coach Mike Stafford were in my gym last night getting sparring. They were frustrated that he has to qualify through the state and regional levels but since he is in a new weight class he has no other option. Our LBC's start on Friday. Are you sure about that? Has your LBC tournament started yet?
Re: Raushee Warren to Stay for 2012 Olympics
Will he get any competition at the local level (LBC)? I'm not sure who you have at 119 besides Raushee.
Raushee was considering moving up to 119 for the 2008 Olympics, but lost a close bout (21-17) to Guillermo Rigondeaux of Cuban (2 time 119# Olympic Gold Medalist) at 119 in the World Cup in 2006. He won his other 2 bouts at the World Cup so I know Raushee can handle 119. He continued to consider moving up and got qualified for the Olympic trials qualifier, the 2007 U.S. Championships, at both weight classes (112 and 119) as he won the 2006 National PAL at 112 and the Midwestern Trials at 119 in 2007. He finally decided to enter the US Chp at 112.

He might get a bout, but not any competition, he will probably get better competition at our regional level. Will he get any competition at the local level (LBC)?
Re: Raushee Warren to Stay for 2012 Olympics
At the regional he should be fighting Ernie Garza or James Smith from Michigan. They shoud be competitive.
