I don't think that Tyson's KO of Spinks was even his best KO, as Spinks was terrified & offered nothing in return.

I think his KO of Reggie Gross is the finest feat of boxing I've seen.

Not only his attacking prowess was on show, but his defensive prowess also.

The way how he slipped all those punches from Gross & exploded with a countering hook that downed Gross was nothing short of jaw dropping.

My top 3 all had Foreman as one of the combatants:

1. Foreman-Frazier I - One of boxings top ten greatest heavyweights of all time totally dominated with ridiculous ease at, or at the very least, very near his prime.

2. Ali - Foreman - nuff said.

3. Foreman - Moore - One of the most exhilarating moments I ever spent watching a fight. I was actually telling my friends that the fight should be stopped when the hammer dropped. Incredible.

It certainly was intresting. I mean Spinks certainly had the Tools to school Tyson and win by UD, and looking back, pretty much nobody expected a KO so early. Tyson ended quite a lot of careers, but to end Spinks' in such fashion was surprising.

But i agree, KO Round 1 of Spinks really shows what Tyson was about.

You're right. Imo it was impressive (quite underated too frankly) but you have a good point, comapred to others it was not as impressive.

I guess it's near impossible to choose the "most impressive performance in boxing history". Since many bouts have their own stories behind them.

Holyfield - Bowe 2 my personal favourite, i was a big Holyfield fan back then but i thought he was washed up.
Tyson upset was pretty much the same, but i think beating Bowe was a bigger accomplishment. I'm not saying I thought Holyfield was going to beat Tyson, i just thought it was going to be interesting to see how Tyson reacted to being hit back, so there was always doubt. I could not see him beating Bowe though.

i don't like leonard after i heard the back story on
leonard-duran II. yes, he got in duran's head, yes
he made him get crazy and give up, but i prefer
real boxing to such games. i used to think SLR was
so great against hagler as well but as of recent i
start to feel some sour taste in my mouth with this
kind of victory.

to me johnson-jeffries, schmeling-louis I and the
first round of tyson-holyfield I were very impressive
events in the hw arena. i remember that, when evander
got hit and moved with the first big shots, i thought he
would end like all the others ...

i found calzaghe-mitchel very impressive. being down
the very first time and then taking immediately all the
risk and slug it out ... wow. that was something.

The problem with Tyson-Spinks was that Tyson was already favored to win by KO, it was just a matter of how long Spinks could hold him off.

NO ONE expected anything like what Foreman did to Frazier. NO ONE.
