The Foreman and Holyfield fights were great results but not really great fights -- Foreman/Moorer is mainly 9 rds of beautiful boxing from Moorer then a come from behind kayo.

Hardly thrillers like Bowe/Golota II, Bowe/Holyfield I & II, Morrison/Ruddock and so many others.

I couldn't believe the hoopla surrounding this one. When I finally picked up a copy of it, it was a huge letdown.

Good call on Moorer-Cooper. Too forgotten. Holyfield-Cooper was similarly exciting.

Mine...

Bowe-Holyfield I, 1992

Bowe-Golota II, 1996

Tyson-Ruddock I, 1991

Missing from the list, maybe not as 'great' but as entertaining as
Cooper-Moorer are Mercer-Cooper and Witherspoon-Mercer.

The 1990s had some damned good and under appreciated ights.
Its really hard for me to make a Top 3.

I would say my 3 favourites are...

Holyfield Vs Bowe 1....I love to watch this fight...prime Bowe vs a prime Holy..
if only Holy kept fighting like he fought round 1.
Holyfield vs Tyson 1. (because at the time, only my cousin that I knew
felt Holy would win...and it was so incredible when he did.)
Moorer vs Foreman....only put this here because the GF is a Foreman fan :P

Holyfield TKO 11 Tyson

Holyfield beats the odds
I remember watching this one. I was quite young and don't remember much of the fight. But my dad really didn't like Tyson by this point so I was very happy to see Holyfield win. Now I actual like Holyfield for reasons other then him not being Tyson.

Holyfield-Bowe I is tops . . BY FAR. Definitely the best HW fight of the 1990s.

Others: Moorer-Cooper (would be 2nd for me), Bowe-Golota I and II, Bowe-Holyfield II, Lewis-Mercer, Mercer-Witherspoon, Briggs-Wilson, Morrison-Ruddock

Decent fights but vastly over-rated: Holyfield-Tyson, Ibeabuchi-Tua

DempseyFire & I have agreed in the past that Ibeabuchi-Tua is stunningly over-rated as an, "action spectacle." Good fight, but not what people will tell you.

I have to say, while Bowe-Holyfield I was a bigger spectacle with much more on the line, there's no beating the action witnessed in Bowe-Golota II (& the previous fight wasn't bad, either).

Sheer action & excitement, this is my top dog, ahead of Bowe-Holyfield I, Holyfield-Cooper (very undersold for action), Moorer-Cooper, Holyfield-Tyson I, & anything else :TU:

I'll bet Witherspoon-Mercer was good, and I'd like to see it.
A fight I get a kick out of is Ruddock-Lewis. Huge event. I didn't get to see Hearns-Hagler when it happened, but seeing Ruddock-Lewis live was just as fun for me. And Golota-Bowe, Bowe was fighting for his life in both those fights. I didn't see Tyson-Holyfield live, but yeah, I'd go with that one, too. :box:

I disagree there. Holyfield-Bowe was consistent back and forth action. Bowe-Golota II, after the 4th round, was a one-sided beating. Entertaining fight, but definitely wouldn't make it #1 as it wasn't competitive enough (Bowe only won the 3rd and 4th rounds and in every other round he took a pounding). I actually think the first Bowe-Golota fight is better as it wasn't as one-sided (in terms of punches landing, not in terms of scoring)

Bowe did damage in the second fight, though. He scored a knockdown, & opened two rather severe cuts on Golota. He took a lesser beating in the first fight, but did no damage in return.

Bowe-Holyfield I is great from start-to-finish, but don't forget, however one-sided it may've been, Golota didn't win. The excitement comes in watching Bowe & wondering how much longer he can survive, only for the sting in the tail of their first bout to re-emerge.

Bowe-Holyfield I was more competitive, but less explosive than Bowe-Golota II.

Obviously, when I say, "may've" it's implied I'm referencing the previous fight, Bowe-Golota II. That wasn't an error on my part.

My bad ( know you love that), english is not my 1st language and the paragraph change from your previous sentence did not make it obvious to me what may've was implying.

Well, I can certainly understand your confusion. It's easy to read it the way you did. It wasn't incorrect of me, but I'll concede it could've been worded better.

Which fight did you prefer, in any event?

I like Bowe-Golota 1 and Bowe-Hollyfield 1 over all the rematches between these fighters. Morrison-Mercer was a good slugfest too while it lasted.

Yeah, Tommy Morrison-Ray Mercer. Tommy nearly got killed in that fight, it's been so long since I saw it, but I think Tommy later said something like the referee had his head up his ass when Mercer was wailing on him. This is an obvious statement, but Tommy made a split second error and Mercer was definitely merciless.
