Boxing Added To School Timetable

What are your thoughts on this? I think it's good intentions, but not convinced the XBOX generation really give a shit. Could it make an impression on childhood obesity and the (adopts Daily Mail voice) "hoody culture".

I teach in a school in Nottinghamshire and we have just set up a Boxing programme a few weeks ago. We provide training to our kids through their normal PE lessons as well as two after school clubs.

Through my connections in the game I was lucky enough to get Matt Scriven involved and he is running the sessions for us. He has included some of his stable such as Andy Bell and Alex Spitko.

Most of the kids have responded well to the sessions. I think the fact that they can watch Andy Bell headline on Sky on Friday night and then have him train the kids on Monday morning goes a long way.

Boxing has a lot to offer our young people and most are capable of shaking off the xbox generation label given half the chance.

I think it's fantastic, obviously boxing isn't for everyone and it won't be competitive against the Xbox for most kids.
However it has always been successful in taking difficult kids off the streets and giving them genuine discipline and focus

excellent news for kids i would think... I went to a few lessons whilst at school but it was extra-curricuclar activity and only possible due to one of teachers having being an amature boxer.....

Yes its great news. We did do boxing in my primary school, thanks to a teacher with good amateur experiance. I remember my gloves were padded cloth, bit cheaper than leather.

All the schools seem to be jumping on it now. More and more are taking it up round my way now. One of my pals goes to various schools during the day then teaches at his gym in the evening.

Great news. More and more schools are wanting to offer boxing and it's in demand from many young people who want to try something different at school. Its political profile is high at the moment too, give its ability to instill discipline in young people.
