Dempsey's Famous Gloves
Dempsey's Famous Gloves
I just came across a newspaper photo, from Dec. 19, 1934, showing Jack Dempsey about to bury the gloves he wore during the 1919 Jess Willard title bout. The caption reads that this is a ceremony at which New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia laid the cornerstone for a tavern being built by Dempsey across from Madison Square Garden. Demspey is shown about to bury the gloves beneath that cornerstone. Query: Are they still there, or have they been dug up?
