Well the PR has done the rounds from Bob Treiger's ever busy keyboard.

So pretty instant I presume, all about mixing SO live video stuff and Max editorial plus Hauser.

Will generate the first PAID alternate to mags I think. Really good stable.

Just noticed that, wonder why he seemed to have dropped off a cliff. Shame, as he was one of the driving forces behind maxbox. Looks like he's followed the $$$ over to Oscar....I wonder how the Ring writers set about giving an honest opinion, on anything involving Goldenboy promotions for instance....

Can't see much of what secondsout bring to the deal, other than Hauser, who writes like the lawyer he is most of the time.

Yes he is a good lad Andrew and could go a long way, scribbled together at many a small hall show.

Doesn't look like Fischer is going to suck his boss's welterweight c0ck judging by his comments here does it:

http://www.thering-online.com/blog/116/ ... terweight/

And because of the one-sided nature of his loss, De La Hoya was
dropped from THE RING’s junior middleweight rankings.
Who knows whether De La Hoya will ever fight again, but as he hasn’t beaten a ranked junior middleweight since his sixth-round knock out of Ricardo Mayorga in May of 2006 and looked so bad against Pacquiao at welterweight, THE RING decided it was time for him to go

Good for him. Fischer's weekly mailbag was my favourite internet read of the week.

There ain't no money in streaming fights online. Not for a couple more years at least until the technology is there (faster connections, better image compression)

Jalipo, the engine behind it have seemingly dropped off a cliff nowadays too.

I was going to stream Darren Barker's fight in Canada, but there just wasn't the demand there for the trouble involved. Permissions where in place and everything.

Unless it's a top level fight and for some reason that country's fighter cannot see it on TV, then your screwed.

I had the internet rights to air Calzaghe vs Kessler but it was pulled with only 4 hours to go. I had about 3,000 people from Denmark going nuts to see their fighter as there stations were not showing it for some crazy reason.

Then Michael Marley stepped in and said it contravened his contract with Kessler - that Sports Network could not allow it to go ahead and be streamed online.

I could have made £10,000 in the blink of an eye.

But grass roots boxing..... not enough demand i'm sad to say to make it viable.

Have you tried getting the betting industry to support streaming boxing??

Betfair stream football from all over the world, and its OK quality.

Think I saw an article earlier in the year that Barry Hearn was trialling it with snooker.

Its down to PPV at the end of the day. They control what filters onto the net 'thats worth 'charging for'.

There are some serious chunks of cash flying round from HBO, SKY and Showtime for these marquee fights and their medium (cable & satellite) want these events to encourage more people to subscribe monthly to their stations and then pay for the fight on top of that.

People may get sky installed for a particular fight - like Hatton vs Mayweather etc, it can have that sort of impact. Thats a hefty investment in equipment, subscriptions etc and then the cost of the show itself.

The internet requires none of that commitment and therefore can either create more profit / or sell cheaper. Because it's hard to control it properly (i.e. the states pay £30 / $59.99 for a show wheras Sky charge £15 for the same card) and the demarcation between countries is difficult to stick to (blocking countries who should not have access to it) - it all boils down to being tricky to implement.

The only way i see it thriving is at grass-roots level. Domestic titles, streamed for free by a boxing site - and just hope the advertising covers the promoter's expenses.

If someone said to me, that I could have Friday fight night for £4 a month via a crisp stream online with chat facility to talk with other fans, I would cancel sky sports altogether as its all i want to watch on those channels.

A promoter needs to take a plunge on it if you ask me.

Maloney or Hennessy have some great domestic belt holders who probably only get 1500 through the venue doors.. they could get 15,000 online throughout the UK all paying £1 each on top of their ticket money.

People who watch streams are often folk who simply have no other means of watching the fights. People unable to get a sky dish or cable.

Even poor folk can muster a quid, if they know they will get a first class stream that will fill their screens and they know wont distort halfway through the fight and go offline.

The problem is a lot pof promoters are only now getting into the internet as a means of tapping into the boxing fans... let alone using it, pushing forward with technology to air fights to people and countries abroad whom want to watch their shows.

At grass roots level a few quid a month or show would be great. Promoters would have to be assured though that it at least covers all the costs and attracts advertisers.

With the Betting companies I think it works by them paying the promoter and then the gamblers subscribing to the website. However I'm not sure that I would want the gambling industry supporting grass roots boxing. Just googled the article anyway...

Looks like Maxboxing are going to become the big name on the block now - the only other really big site in terms of numbers is Fightnews.com.

How I wish I'd never given up my boxing column at maxboxing now.
