Elcock V Macklin - March 7
Elcock V Macklin - March 7
Hennessy won the purse bids and it's on in Birmingham on March 7th. Good all Birmingham scrap, I'm going for Macklin to stop Elcock late on. Surprised Warren didn't win this one, he could have put it on his Feb 21 show in Birmingham.

Good British title fight
Hopefully Darren Barker gets a shot at the winner. These sort of fights for the Lonsdale belt help restore some lost prestige with WBU etc shite we have been subjected to.

Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
I agree with Butch, I hope Darren gets a title shot for the summer - if he doesn't then his career is just stagnating, people already think it is already, I disagree though. I'm also pretty sure his fight with McKay is an eliminator for Elcock's title too.
Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
should have elcock v macklin for the british and barker v smith for the comonwealth on the undercard and the 2 winners to meet think smith would win the lot

Another good british title fight to look forward to next year,Keep them coming....
Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
Excellent fight for the area, I might even get off my fat ass and go and watch this un. Should be a close fight imo, but I fancy youth to outpoint experience. Cracking fight in a cracking division, there should hopefully be plenty more to follow as well as the division is stacked.

There were a few purse bids due yesterday - and I dont believe Wazza secured one.
How could he miss this one ? Not as though the winning bid was mega bucks.

Good potential matchup. I'll believe it when I see it.

What was the winning bid out of interest?
Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
I reckon it'll happen, I think Macklin would actually kill Warren should he pull him out.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Good potential matchup. I'll believe it when I see it.
I think Macklin will stop Elcock late, but this is a close one.
Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
I hope so mate. But it's been cancelled before. I hope it goes through. Recent events have cause me to lose faith with a specific Promoter.

The winning bid was £80k - That's not big according to 26. He obviously knows his onions!!
Warren bid £50k for the record, a sizeable bid in itself.

60/40 split in the champion's favour isn't it ?, giving Elcock £48,000 and Macklin £32,000whicker wrote:so £40 grand each... nice...!boxingchat wrote:The winning bid was £80k - That's not big according to 26. He obviously knows his onions!!

Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
No i think its 60 40 in a mandatory its only 50 50 for a vacant.That is a massive bid tho 50 or 60 k is a decent bid for a british.
I think the split will be more 48k to 32k.
beat me to it.

Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
I like Elcock to stop Macklin late, or at least, outpoint him.
Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
I think Elcock is gonna be too physically strong for Macklin who wont be slick enough or cute enough to stay out the way of a war with the bigger Elcock.
Elcock to win by stoppage around the 9th round mark.
Like someone else has already said and eluded to, I'll believe this fight when I see it. Too much politics involved. I dont doubt Macklin's intentions to fight but I can see him getting pulled from this fight with the promise of an eliminator for a shot at the WBO title or some other pile of FW bullshit.
Id love the fight to happen.

Tommy Gilmour is claiming that Appleby's getting a huge purse to defend his British title against Martin Lindsey in Belfast on a Hayemaker show, a figure of £70,000 was mentioned in the press so either someone's exaggerating greatly or Hayemaker have more money than sense.boxingchat wrote:The winning bid was £80k - That's not big according to 26. Interesting that Warren didn't win any of yesterday's bids though. You could take that as an indication of him having no interest in any of those fights and he's all set to flog Gavin, Degale and Jeffries around the country in "apprenticeship" fights. It said in Boxing News a few weeks back that the new trio were not part of his deal with Sky so where will they end up or is he just trying to get an already very pissed off Sky to part with more cash?
I've no doubt boxingchat will enlighten us. After all he was able to clear up the mystery of the missing commonwealth title challenger in Widnes on Friday.
Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
I think Smith is the weakest of all four. Barker's the strongest prospect for my money, and I genuinely can't call it out of Elcock and Macklin.diggler wrote:should have elcock v macklin for the british and barker v smith for the comonwealth on the undercard and the 2 winners to meet think smith would win the lot

Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
a couple of things: as for Barker, I think I am right in saying that he and Darren McDermott are mandated to face off in an eliminator around the same kind of time elcock- macklin will be on (it came out as an announcement the same time the BBB of C anno9unced elcock-macklin).
(can anyone confirm that my memory is sketchy at the best of times)
and seeing as McDermott's promoter has an excellent relationship with Hennessy, I don't see a problem with that happening. as a Macca fan i think Barker's style is all wrong for him and would back Barker on points, fingers crossed for the Dudley man tho
re elcock - macklin. hasn't been said yet but for me it totally depends on which Elcock turns up. he's very much a confidence fighter it seems to me. the Macca who boxed Eastman cautiously and cutely could keep Macklin off-balance and 'old man' him, IMO. however that blueprint was for a fight with, not to put too fine a point on it, one of the least active (punch output) fighters we have ever had in these shores. I don't think Macklin will let him have as much time as Eastman did and will look to swarm him a bit IMO- Wayne's confidence could be shaken off even if he goes into the bout with his head right.
another version of Elcock is the monster who took Bendall apart (nearly taking his head off in the process). if you didn't see that, I can assure you Wayne looked fantastic that night, devastating and aggressive. whilst macklin and bendall are poles apart it's worth noting Bendall is probably less easy to hit than Macklin and that an offensive-minded Elcock could do some damage.
if i'm honest though my fear is that Elcock's tentative evil twin will turn up and just get gradually ran over by Macklin. I really want him to win so a macca-elcock rematch can be set up but if I was betting i'd say it'll be Barker- Macklin

Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
Boxing Chat is right, £80,000 is a large bid.
Barker-McDermott needs to happen soon to get the best out of the fight. I'm facsinated to see them go at it. Both supremely fit, but who outlasts who ?
I was gutted Scott Dann-Gary Lockett never happened, fingers crossed Barker-McDermott doesn't go the same way.

Re: Elcock V Macklin - March 7
if its a pure trial of strength and fitness I think Macca wins mate, unfortunately I suspect Barker may be cute enough to make sure he can control the pace, keep macca off balance and prevent him from pressing too much. I haven't seen Macca against anyone with remotely barker's skillset, never mind a southpaw, so the intangibles here point away from the Dudley man IMO. I have a vague picture in my mind of the fight looking a bit like Gethin-Lawton did :xTHEBUTCH wrote:Boxing Chat is right, £80,000 is a large bid.

the late rounds could be interesting if macca gets a head of steam up though. for me its more an interesting styles clash than a guaranteed barnburner- its in Barker's best interests that the fight is nothing like Froch-Pascal, for example.
