London boxing venues

Post by chinny »

I need to be a bit vague as to why I need this info but a pal has asked about London boxing venues.

York Hall is great but the capacity is only 1,200. Looking for something closer to 5,000, so O2 probably too big

Alexandra Palace? Excel? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I assumed the Albert Hall didn't stage boxing anymore as there hasn't been any shows there for ages (to my knowledge)?

Was there not some fights in Hammersmith over the last few years? Apollo or Palais?

They've knocked the conference centre down. Albert Hall is best but often booked up miles in advance. I think the O2 has a smaller venue there called the Indigo2. Wembley Arena is about 10,000 but set up small for David Haye against Bonin. They've lost most of their bookings to the O2 as well. Hammersmith Apollo is rubbish for boxing as ring has to go on stage. Shepherds Bush Empire is possible.

If they roll out all possible seating, Crystal Palace leisure centre is pretty good. I've seen some good bouts in there down the years and the atmosphere can be surprisingly good.
