Barker won when McKay was retired by his corner (around mid way)
Magee beat McGuire via bodyshots in around the 7th I think (dropedd him twice with body shots in the round before he finished it) for British Super Middle belt.
Peter McDonagh upset Lee Purdy for the Southern area title winning 96 - 94 over 10 in a cracking fight.

I hopped over after the Vlad fight so only caught it from the fifth onwards but I was impressed by what I saw as Barker looked as though he'd done a real job on Mackay. The Irishman's corner pulled him out between the 6th and the 7th as he was starting to get a real beating in there.
I liked the fact Barker looked really fluid and was stringing some good combinations together. Hennessey mentioned Kassim Ouma as a possible future opponent and I think that's a good call in terms of his development curve.
One of the few concerns I have about Barker is that he seems a really solid 'all-rounder' but isn't outstanding in any department, whether that's in terms of his power or his defence. Consequently I can see him operating on the fringes of world class but I'm not convinced he can be a belt holder.
Having said that, he's still developing, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that he comes on leaps and bounds as he seems a top fella.

Darren Barker....
Thought he was quality last night..... Showed that his power is really developing, and could of had McKay out of there in the first round! What next for Barker? Hennessy mentioned a fight with Kassim Ouma?? Your views............

It was a quality card overall. McDonagh v Purdy was very exciting - I was just gutted that Purdy lost as he's looked agood prospect. Heard the Magee fight was a tough one as well.
McKay doesn't look easy to fight, he seems to be quite cagey. Barker had trouble getting his shots off at times but he did land some very good shots. I'm not sure whether I want to see Barker showing high workrate (as in Crampton fight) or accuracy (as against Bendall).
My only gripe - the Commonwealth title has been a bit disappointing. Especially given that Hennessy has had some involvement with Irish fighters, and promotes in Canada! It hasn't helped make any really good fights. If they can brign in Ouma, that sounds good. I think British and European titles are what Barker should be building to. In Britain there's Elcock, Macklin, even Martin Murray on the way up.
Very watchable, these Hennessy ITV bills. Next up Murray v McAllister! with Scott Haywood v Lenny Daws.

MacDonagh v Purdy was a belter. Credit to everyone involved in this match. Great to see MacDonagh get his hands on the Southern Area title after plugging away at the pro game as an opponent. Peter was good value for his win, but Purdy pushed him all the way to the finish.
ITV are finally getting things right. That's two great nights of boxing in the space of a week.
Barker looked the busines in taking apart Jason McKay. Talk of winning the Britsh and European to add to his Commonwealth title look a distinct possibility by the end of 2009.
Kasim Ouma would be a top notch Commonwealth challenger, although I'd be surprised if that happened it 2009.
