Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
heres some news from sportsnut
Former Manny Pacquiao sparring partner turned raging hot Aussie prospect Lenny Zappavigna is set for the biggest challenge of his career – a fight with former IBF super featherweight world champion Gairy St Clair in February.
The 21-year-old slugger is unbeaten in 17 fights with 13 KOs and coming off a sixth-round stoppage of two-time world title challenger Tommy Browne who had fought In Jin Chi and Chris John in featherweight title fights.
Zappavigna who has made a habit of stopping Filipinos, perfected his skills with six weeks sparring against the world’s top fighter Manny Pacquiao as The Pac Man prepared to face Jorge Solis in San Antonio, Texas last year.
He is a 2006 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist.
The 33-year-old St Clair beat Cassius Baloyi for the IBF junior-lightweight title in 2006.
Losses to Baloyi in a rematch and to Amir Khan, William Kickett and Mlungisi Dlamini have been interspersed with wins against Filipinos Robert Oyan, Jun Paderna and Junmar Dulog.
St Clair was chasing a fight with Pacquiao until the loss to Khan in London.

More good news for boxing, Zappa seems to be taking the Wille Kickett route. Will Ahmed Elomar who was in Zappa' corner v Tommy Browne be next.
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
don't like the look of this for Zappa. It may be too much to ask. I don't like the style matchup. Perhaps they see Superman on the downward slope. Anyway....Good luck Lenny
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
Can't wait for this fight.
You have to give it to St. Claire the guy will fight anyone!
I think Gairy still has alot to offer the sport and the different styles should make for an interesting fight.

That is an interesting thought. I didn't like the group of people in Zappa'a corner or that fight and I will be surprised if they would, how should I put this... truly fight each other.Hounddog wrote:More good news for boxing, Zappa seems to be taking the Wille Kickett route. Lenny Zappa is a hard little bloke who can bamg with the best of them. I was very impressed with his fight against Tommy Browne.
I think he would KO St Clair.
I think he would KO St Clair.
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
providing Lenny gets through his next couple of challenges will we one day see him fight Katsidis?
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
Big call -St Clair hasn't been stopped yet... should be a great fight either wayBrute wrote: I think he would KO St Clair.

Huge call I don't think he has met the canvas yet, one of the best chins in the business. The Skull wrote:Big call -St Clair hasn't been stopped yet... should be a great fight either wayBrute wrote: I think he would KO St Clair.

On par potential wise with Katsidis at the same time in his career, that's why I would love to see him fight Ganoy as Katsidis did, would be a great fight while it lasted.Hounddog wrote:providing Lenny gets through his next couple of challenges will we one day see him fight Katsidis?

I'd like to see that fight as well, would be exciting.
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
Browne's only previous KO was against Chris John, and that was stopped between rounds.Anenigma wrote:Huge call I don't think he has met the canvas yet, one of the best chins in the business. The Skull wrote:Big call -St Clair hasn't been stopped yet... should be a great fight either wayBrute wrote: I think he would KO St Clair.
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
gary st clair is the most over rated world champ aust has produced he struggled winning a six round decision over jun pederna .got a boxing lesson from amir khan .who lenny would wipe the floor with st clair and khan on the same night.
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
You are kidding right, St Claire is beautifull to watch he is a classic boxer with great skills, He easily accounted for Paderna with great defensive skill.davidk59 wrote:gary st clair is the most over rated world champ aust has produced he struggled winning a six round decision over jun pederna .got a boxing lesson from amir khan .who lenny would wipe the floor with st clair and khan on the same night.
Boxing isn't about charging forward like rhino and hoping you get the win there actually is some skill involved hence it being called the sweet science.
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
Khan is an Olmypic silver medalist, Saying Lenny would beat him is a big call. Khan has fought far better opposition than Lenny. There's a big diffrence between Commenwealth Bronze and Olmypic Silver.davidk59 wrote:gary st clair is the most over rated world champ aust has produced he struggled winning a six round decision over jun pederna .got a boxing lesson from amir khan .who lenny would wipe the floor with st clair and khan on the same night.
Im not saying that Lenny couldn't KO him but its a big call. Especially at this stage of there careers.
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
there is skill in charging forward like a rhino .lets say st clair is a beautiful boxer say like floyd mayweather now if lenny gives a bit of side to side movement on the way in unlike hatton getting picked on the way in something like duran their is a lot of infighting skill that seems to be a lost art these days his pressure and power would easily retire st clair .
as far as khan goes who cares about the point system of the amateurs doesn't mean you can fight.it's just good to get a bit of ring experience before you turn pro. if your suited and lenny is a lot more suited than khan.

You have no idea!
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
no idea ,duran wouldn't beat floyd mayweather we seen him struggle with de la hoya who is well past his best and mayweather is in his prime duran in his prime would stop him in two rounds .as far as my bother is concerned the only one to beat him fair and square is leapai on points for the opbf title in less than a year of being pro .because no one else in nsw had the googs to go for it .but you'll see if they have a rematch just how much he's improved.
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
What does Duran and Lenny have in commen?
If your trying to compare them you are severly overrating Lenny
And the olmpypic comment was the fact it takes a special sort of fighter to get to the silver medal in the Olmypics. Khan would box ringts around Lenny and unless getting caught by one punch like his last fight i couldnt see Lenny beating him at the moment.

What about Briggs or was that a bad decision? If it was Briggs will rectify that in 10 weeks,
You are a mongaloid inbread from Hicksville that knows nothing.
Go away!
Re: Zappavigna v St Clair in feb
firstly i'll start with duran and lenny .lenny at this point is obviously not as good as duran yet .but the aggressive come in and land good power shots are there and with that pacman sparring he will have a lot of motivation .he's on his way up .gairy st clair is on his way out.
now as far as olympic silver medalists boxing rings around people what about my friend alex tui a good kickboxer but a journeyman boxer not even aust champ knocking out spike cheney in all fairness cheney won a rematch due to cut eye stoppage but was never the same again
now nathan briggs and michael kirby i'll let the people decide who won that eight round contest i'ts on you tube michael was never hurt and never held on .but briggsy was hurt on several occasions and held on through out the fight michael was sick and did tier a bit in the last round but he at least won five rounds or a draw would have been fair.
