The Ali vs Foreman fight was in Kinshasa Zaire, not Kinshasa Congo. I found this mistake in the Classics/Muhammad Ali.

Another mistake I found is that in the Classics archive, Muhammad Ali is spelled wrong. It is supposed to be spelled Muhammad, not Mohammed.

which brings up the point -- should the name of a country be changed AFTERWARDS?

I think the name of the country at the time the bout was fought is what should be used.

I believe it should be the country's name as of the time the fight was held.

For example, in Boxrec it is listed as Czech Republic -- a country that was formed only within the last 15 years or so.

I disagree, we live in the now. We aren't listing boxers born in the former Soviet Union, as being born in the Soviet Union, we are listing them as being born in their respective former Soviet Republics.

This would create a mess, since we would force people to enter German bouts between 1945 and 1990, with a location of West Germany. Then you got states like Arizona, Hawaii, and Alaska who have boxing histories prior to statehood, that would be listed as territories.

You've got other countries that have switched names, too like Belize-British Honduras. Some of the Caribbean islands were part of the British West Indies.
