The EBU champ also talks about Hunter, Martinez and Caballero.

He`s just about the only guy I`ve heard at the weight who`d like to fight Caballero :o
Its a tough division at world title level ... many more levels up from the likes of Hunter and Dunne.

Good feature. Just spoke to Hunter in the gym and he laughed with the 60-mile qoute. hartlepool's finest insisting he is banging out 100 mile a week on the roads and beaches of the North East. Given the quotes were fairly complimentary about Mick he seemed to get very animated over the phone! I'd love a fight between the two to come off.

Here's Hunter's thoughts on the same theme after I spoke to him just after Christmas

I didnt see munroes fight in dublin but seen the one before that and he dosent have the skill to bother dunne . His power is not overly impressive. The division at the top level is top notch and the best can really hit. I think munroe is euro level at best and the guys that he has fought since gaining the title have been very poor.

Dunne is maybe targetting the Thomas-Cruz IBF Featherweight winner in France next month. I'd prefer him to fight Munroe but for whatever reason it isn't going to happen.

I reckon he handles Hunter fairly easily but loses to Dunne in a competitive decision.

I still have hope for the Dunne fight coming off, but there is no way it happens in Nottingham or England in general. Dunne would be the draw and the fight would sell out the new 02.

Do you really think it would sell out? I know that the kiko martinez fight didnt sell out the old rds and that is smaller than the new 02. Prices would have to fall and i think a lot of the shine has come off dunne. I think to get a sell out there would have to be a very good undercard featuring one of the top Irish fighters.
As for the fight I think that dunne would frustrate munroe and get the decision.

I think with a good card they could sell it out.

Unbelievably, I think the Kiko fight came in for a bit of stick in the build up with people saying they'd "never heard of him" and Dunne would do him. If that was the consensus, not as many would pay for it. It was also his 4th fight in 10 months so people might have been over sold. The Pickering fight sold no problem in the Point though and there hasn't been that many fights recently so I think it would do better.

But with Dunne at the top of the bill in a competitive EBU fight, and a strong undercard, it could sell. Maybe a pairing of any of the many Middleweights Ireland has would do the trick.

I think Munroe is right - he would prove to strong for Dunne.

Still, it would be a cracking fight and it should be made

The Martinez fight was at the Point Depot(just over 8,000 capacity at the time) and is now the O2  (14,000).
It did indeed sell out in the end though, perhaps the confusion comes from the recent Dunne docutmentary where Brian Peters confessed he was taking a hit of about €160,000 for the fight. That's because the 2 fighters were earning ridiculous money.

There was also a British Light-Heavyweight title fight on the card between Tony Oakey and Brian Magee aswell as Matthew Macklin, Andy Lee and Paul McCloskey. But it was the main fight that drained Peters' cash.

And that card didn't sell

Dunne would take the decision against Munroe , Munroe hits fighters once or twice then move off but Dunne hits them a couple of times then moes off

Though since the Kiko fight there are more "high" profile boxers on Peters books and more willing to fight on Peters cards therefore I reckon he could put a good if not great card together. The main issue will be getting top class opposition, though he/Muttley must have this half sortted to be able to offer £60,000 purse plus £40,000 side bet for charity.

There are plenty of up and comming Irish boxers that would fight on a big card like this for nothing or for a cut on a ticket only deal.

Dunne got truly obliterated by Kiko.

Maybe a rematch with his conqueror should be his priority ?

( or maybe not ! )

I'm sure that will be on the agenda should Kiko beat Munroe in the rematch, but I think that is unlikely to happen.

I really like Munroe, but he's lost a hell of a lot of rounds to limited fighters. I would fear for him against the slick boxing Dunne, but I would give him a decent chance if he manages to get his foot-work right - that's a big flaw for him I feel.
