The weak £- GOOD news for British boxers

Post by whicker »

Because they will get more work.

It has hard to get your head round, but think like this-

A British promotor needs some opponents to fill his undercard. A European Joureyman will do it for 800 Euro.

12 months ago, that was about £600. Now it is £800! So, if the promotor's budget is in £ then European and American fighters are going to cost more to book. "Cheap" foreign imports are not nearly as cheap as they were, so it might simply be cheaper to book domestic fighters.

The flip side is an Italian promotor might want some opponents- suddenly British fighters being paid in £ are a lot cheaper. A British fighter who wants £1000 will cost an Italian promotor 1000 of his Euros, whereas last year he would have cost him 1400 Euros.

Could also mean a lot more of our boxers fight abroad. Possibly a big reason Paq - Hatton looks like going to Vegas, generating USD rather than sterling.

Froch v Taylor in New York, come on :box:

It's not hard to get your head around.
However, in the greater scheme of things, it's a pittance.
Save 400 euro against a dangerous UK Opponent, or save nowt against a Euro journeyman.
Don't think these Euro Promotors think any different than Wazza !
Now if you apply your same logic to trying to sign a Premiership striker, then its a whole different ball game.
That's why Emile sick note Heskey is likely to be Liverpool's target rather than eg Podolski.

Thats a very good point, not only does the promoter have to pay foriegn boxer there purse but also flights, hotel, food expenenses ect..

But 26 saving 400 euro a British journeyman would make sence, but i do see what you saying..

It's all about degrees London Irish.
The bigger the purse the more it makes sense - but 90% of our lads ain't exactly earning fortunes.
Podolski is still available at 8 mill Euro.
Last year that was £4,750,000.
Now its £8,000,000.
