Whats happening with Thaxton
Whats happening with Thaxton
The thaxton camp has gone a little quiet as of late. Any idea when he is due back in the ring? Is he going to defend his EBU or is he moving up for a world title?
Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
His promoter was on Steve Bunce's television show. I think he said that he was trying to get Thaxton a voluntary defence of his European title in February against the French champion.
I think this is the French champion: http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer

That's right, Horse. Mezache's record looks pretty awful, so I hope it's just a keep busy fight.
Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
February 28th.
Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
My question is, what is Romanov doing? This will have an effect on what Thaxton does.
Romanov beat Thaxton in defence of the EBU title, then relinquished the crown. To his credit, Thaxton KO'd Melero, a guy on the verge of beating Romanov til Romanov landed the one big shot.
Now Romanov is the #1 contender. Romanov had been injured, but he was supposed to be targeting the WBA "regular" title now held by Paulus Moses. I wonder if he was waiting to see if Moses beat Kobori...If Romanov can't get his WBA title fight, will he come back to the UK for "easy money"? (given that he was in control vs Thaxton).

Fondu told me that Romanov was going to wait for his shot against Paulus Moses
Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
Sounds good. I want to see Romanov take the leap up to "world class".
Doesn't Fondu have an option on Moses, or something?

Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
Any idea where this will be?
The obvious choice would be a similar bill to Thaxton's last in that Barn in Norwich with McIntosh on the undercard. If Hide v Godfrey could be made on the same bill then maybe a venue with a slightly larger capacity.

Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
amir khan should be his next opponent but just as i was saying that amir we hear has went into hiding
Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
hennessy confirmed on the boxing hour that it will be at the norfolk showground again, mcintosh will be on the undercard, don't think hide will be though.jameswilson wrote:Any idea where this will be?

Even more than that, I thought Fondu trained or managed Moses?Autobarn wrote:Sounds good. I want to see Romanov take the leap up to "world class".

Clashing with Warren's Birmingham Bill? that seems somewhat counterproductive. (not saying it won't happen, of course...)Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:February 28th.

Moses has just picked up the full WBA title from Campbell. I think Romanov is just mandatory, I don't think he is connected to Fondu.
Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
Fondu was with moses team in Japan
Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
Mick confirmed it on Steve's show. Same as they did with December 6th. I agree, odd.whicker wrote:Clashing with Warren's Birmingham Bill? that seems somewhat counterproductive. (not saying it won't happen, of course...)Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:February 28th.

Did Fondu once have a piece of Moses? he did one say that Moses owed him a fight, something like that, and that it would be vs Romanov.gobbles wrote:steve689 wrote:Even more than that, I thought Fondu trained or managed Moses?Autobarn wrote:Sounds good. Just heard about Campbell vacating the WBA. Makes things interesting. More of a title to fight for.
Re: Whats happening with Thaxton
I'm tempted to go to the Birmingham show, but if something decent is on ITV I might be tempted stay at home. It's daft. It means that ITV lose out on boxing fans who go to the live show, and the live show loses fans who stay at home to watch the other one. Had they planned for different dates they both could probably expect a bigger crowd/more viewing figures.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Mick confirmed it on Steve's show. Really annoying dilemma, as no doubt there won't be anything at all on on the next two Saturdays.
That said, with just around a month and a half to go if they are fixing up a big title bout they need to get things moving (reasonably) quickly. How far in advance does ITV schedule TV slots?
