Macca V Banks

Post by salvador »

It was announced a week ago that Enzo would be meeting Jonathan Banks in February (possibly the 21) with Khan on the same bill. Since then nothing and Warren has now announced another show happening in Brum on 28 February. Does anyone know what's happening with this one?

Warren said talks are ongoing but he's confident of it going down in Feb. We'll see.

I can't see them being on the Birmingahm card (I wish this wasn't such a gamble- I'd go for sure if they were) with it being already announced and tickets already going on sale.

However, time is ticking away for a Feb date.

J.S: Are you annoyed you aren't fighting him (Adamek) next month?

B.J F: Well, I really need this tune-up, and there are already billboards with my name on all over Vegas for the fight. Originally, the fight with Adamek was going to be in April, which would have given me time to get my tune-up fight in. But they wouldn't budge on the February date and they wouldn't let me take my tune-up. However, there are some other big plans for me in 2009. It's possible I could end up facing Jonathan Banks for the WBO title. That would be a good start to an exciting year for me.

A date and venue are yet to be announced but promoter allegedly has confirmed 28-year-old Maccarinelli will definitely face the unbeaten Banks next month.

Warren guaranteed that this fight will happen in February.

You should have booked your tickets, travel and hotel by now :shame:

Apparently Adamek is looking for an opponent. Since his mandatory BJ Floor'd withdrew on grounds of inactivity.

Adamek, the IBFchamp, Ring champ, and #1 at cruiser, might be looking for a decent Yank...Wonder if Banks would go for it, so that he doesn't have to travel for his title shot. Another name mentioned for Adamek is Braithwaite.

Adamek to face Banks?

By Lee Bates

Word is that newly crowned IBF cruiserweight champion Tomas Adamek (36-1, 24 KOs) of Poland will make the first defense of his title against world ranked challenger Jonathan Banks (20-0, 14 KOs). The bout would take place February 27th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey and be aired live on a special edition of SHOWTIME’s acclaimed ShoBox series. Adamek won the title at the same venue on December 11th, dethroning champion Steve Cunningham in front of a large Polish crowd. Banks was to fight Enzo Maccarinelli for the vacant WBO belt in December, but had to pull out with an ankle injury.

Warren said on the Bunce show he had a signed contract, so I suppose Banks could end up in court. I think it would be normal to build in a 3-month postponement clause, so he can't just pull out and fight someone else.

Politics, politics it spoils boxing. It would be so much better if there was just one World title for each weight division with a World boxing council that set the rules. It would be so much better and we would likely get to see the fights we want to see. The way things are a fighter has to unify to really be able to say he is the World champion. Even then he can still avoid people he doesnt want to fight and therefore still cant say he is the best because it hasnt been proven. Mayweather avoided Cotto as Hatton avoided Witter. Only when Cotto and Witter were beaten did the pressure for Hatton and Mayweather to fight their rivals subside. Boxing should be about having to prove who is best as with other sports. Can you imagine Man U ducking Liverpool or an athlete pulling out of an event because he/she didnt want to lose against their rival, yet in boxing it happens all the time. No wonder boxing is no longer a major sport.

I could see this happening when I heard Adamek's mandatory had withdrawn. Banks is nice and convenient for Adamek and for Showtime.

Banks gets to fight for more recognition, better titles, and doesn't have to travel to the UK.

I hope it happens. I'd rather see a former light heavy in Adamek vs Banks, who will trade with the squat, powerful(ish) Yank and there to be hit. As opposed to a 6'4 Mac, who won't let Banks anywhere near him.

Plus I'd love to see what SN/FW come up with, and to see if the WBO and the BBBoFC will approve the replacement.

Maybe Lawrence Tauasa (ranked 6th by the WBO), if he does well on The Contender?

It looks like Banks might be facing Adamek instead.
