Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
Many are heavy-handed, plenty have quick hands --- not a whole lot have both, to whatever degree.
Some instances of these fairly rare men...
Floyd Patterson (Always under-appreciated power)
Oscar De La Hoya (140lbs)
Zab Judah (140lbs)
Roy Jones (168lbs)
Joe Louis
Mike Tyson
Jack Dempsey
Ezzard Charles (175lbs)
Michael Moorer (175lbs)

Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
How about Azumah Nelson? Thomas Hearns (147-154)? Maybe even Leanord at 140?
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
I guess you could say that Shavers while not super fast, had
damned good power to weight ratio.
damned good power to weight ratio.
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
Nice thread.
Floyd Pattterson was the first name i though of when I read the title. Ray Robinson should be mentioned too

When Patterson threw combinations in his peak, he was like
an intense concerntrated explosion. People get excited by Tyson
but many really have not watched enough Patterson at his
best to appreciate the prototype of the Wiley HW style.

Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
Julian Jackson fits the bill much more than Super Zab IMO
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
..hey j-c,,you beat me to it. Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson are definitely the first two to go on this list. anybody else starts at 3rd place on down.
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
Julian Jackson and handspeed don't go together.Jaywheel wrote:Julian Jackson fits the bill much more than Super Zab IMO
Just my opinion.
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
Definitely Hearns,Robinson and Tyson.
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
Zab and power don't really go together IMO, it's why I stated that. Jackson did not have that great of a chin, so his powerful punches had to land first at some time for him to ko all these boxers that weren't journeyman.Grimm wrote:Julian Jackson and handspeed don't go together.Jaywheel wrote:Julian Jackson fits the bill much more than Super Zab IMO

Gerald McClellan was a monster puncher and had fast hands, as was Nigel Benn.
In the lower weights, Naseem Hamed definitely fits the bill

Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
Judah wasn't a one-shot hitter, but you needn't be to make this list. What he had was simply extraordinary handspeed, but he could hit. Under-rated power, much like a Patterson or a Walcott at Heavyweight.
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
Duran purely at lightweight would be in this group. His whole career does not tell the story of his power at his best weight. This new guy Edwin Valero may end up in this league at some point. Hasn't missed a KO yet.
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
Nope. Zab neither. Don't even know where I got those names from.Grimm wrote:Have you seen Jackson fight?
Thread is not about handspeed solely, it's the speed-power ratio.
Who has the better ratio? PBF or Trinidad.
If your power is much above par, your speed can be average to good and you'll have a good ratio. Just my opinion.
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
I just don't think Jackson has any speed at all and I would take Floyd over Trinidad.Jaywheel wrote:Nope. Zab neither. Don't even know where I got those names from.Grimm wrote:Have you seen Jackson fight?

Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
McClellan was a better choice, I have to admit.
Re: Exceptional Handspeed-To-Power Ratio...
How about Mosley at 135?

Terrible Terry Norris (154)
