Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Never taken on a legit world class fighter in his prime, ran like a woman from Cotto, Margo and Williams claiming they never bought anything(other than the fact that they were dangerous, although he never mentioned this part) to the table.

Khaosai Galaxy was overrated. Never beat a legend, never fought outside of Asia, sloppy technique, overly reliant of strength and stamina - horrible stuff!

Must say, I've got a video of Galaxy, and he was very very crude it's true.

To be fair to him though, in his weight division at that time, I think most of the talent was in Asia, and also there was no real market for lower weight fighters outside of Asia, where exactly would he have got the chance to fight for a decent crowd?

He was also very very effective, he had the strength of a mule.

I was joining in the tongue in cheek tone of the thread, a bit, and using some BoxRec faves (never beat a legend in his prime)

yes, you're right, there was no real money in the mini weights til Carbajal-Gonzalez 1. Darchinyan has caused a bit of a revival.

I don't know...most people think Herol was a world class fighter with incredible talent who underachieved for several reasons, don't they? Seems fair enough.

Mike McCallum's recent comments about Graham were very favourable in comparison with other people he boxed.

A great idea for a thread, because "overrated" doesn't mean "bad" it just means not as good as people think...

Like no-one could call Khan overrated, as most people (at least within the boxing fan community) seem to think he is a bit rubbish.

Likewise Bruno- we all loved him, but too we all knew deep down he wasn't "that" good.

So who is overated then?

On the British scene its got to be Amir Khan by a country mile.

Its very unfair to mention Herrol Graham, Herrol Graham got to - and stayed in world class for quite a long time.

OverHYPED maybe, but I wouldn't say overRATED- people generally tend to think he isn't that good.

Things must be really bad in Khaosai land.
I prefer to listen to the opinions of McCallum, Hagler etc.
Why did so many rated fighters avoid him like the plague ?
Fraudley. Overhyped, over rated.

Rocky Marciano, considering some of the all time lists he appears on and name recognition among the man on the street.

The only reason I rate him is because he was off his tits on smack most of the time. If only he'd stayed sober he would be a great great fighter.

I've argued with bennie that Esteban De Jesus was over-rated. That'd probably be my pick.

That has massivly screwed up his legacy though, I think most people will remember him as such- a fighter who screwed up. Shame, really, as what he did achieve was really quite something.

I think its still a bit early to say Khan is overrated. A lot has been expected of him and he hasnt quite lived up to expectations so far but time will tell. Personally I dont think he will make it past Euro level but thats just my opinion and we shall just have to see.
